I've always liked this ship, but I love this build. Really sharp, awesome work on her, Chris...and your decaling is coming along beautifully. When I saw that shot of the ship with black paint, I thought that would be a really nifty variant...almost some kind of stealth Miranda-class that is invisible to sensors

Wow, no kidding, Rob! I must have got those decals from Dr. Smith, because they flaked before I could even blink. Last time I EVER get decals off Amazon!
(The JT Graphics ones were flawless, BTW)

Old school time. I'm gonna PAINT the aztecs.

Re: USS Bozeman

Have you ever tried Microscale liquid decal film? If you brush it on the decals and let it dry it should prevent them from flaking.

No, just put 'em on & clear coat it is all I've done, and it's worked so far. I conjure these were stored in a hot place or something. The JT decals took elbow grease to remove. The rest just came off like dust after I coated 'em.
GRRR ARGH!

Re: USS Bozeman

To be clear, the Microscale film is applied while the decals are still on the paper. It's meant to restore cracked carrier film.

Okay, maybe I wasn't clear myself- it looked okay on the paper, it slid off pretty well, but when I went to clear coat them after they were dry, I saw the areas had just 'risen' off the hull as if the glue on the decals wasn't ever there.
It came off in easy to remove flakes (except for a JT Graphic decal that held on VERY tenaciously).

Re: USS Bozeman

Okay, starting over with the aztecing: first a light coat of darker grey...

After it's dry, I'll begin masking off the aztec bits that will remain that grey, and return the rest of the hull to the lighter grey.

Re: USS Bozeman

Ahh, when you said they flaked off I thought you meant they broke apart. I've had it happen

Some folks mix white glue into the water to improve adhesion, but I figure if they need that then they probably aren't worth bothering with.

Wisemodelman:
When you removed the tape from the model, did you paint the aztecs?

ChrisisallAsh:
Yeah... basically.

Wisemodelman:
Did you paint the exact aztecs?

ChrisisallAsh:
Look. Maybe I didn't paint every single little tiny greeble, no. But basically I painted them, yeah.

Wisemodelman:
Dung eating fool!
Thou hast doomed us all! When thou mispainted the aztecs, the Army of the Rivet Counters awoke!

Okay, I ordered a new set of decals from a REAL model company. That masking was makin' me nuts, and taking FOREVER...

Interesting. Are those windows on the B-C deck structure supposed to be that large? They seem out of scale to the others.
