The Turbocycle from Galactica 1980 (that's right, GALACTICA 1980!)

This one has been a long time coming (getting started anyway). Still a lot of refinements to go, but it's finally starting to look like it suppose to, so time to share some pics!

VERY big thanks to OTIST at Resin Illumnati for help with photo reference many moons ago...

More to come as I get time...

Its 1/6, or 2"=1'.

Soon I'll unearth my Majestic Studios BSG figures so they can take it for a spin...

Love it! Always wished there had been a model kit of it.

Excellent bike so far. Looking forward to more pictures.

Did you build this entirely from scratch? Or is some of it from existing parts?

Ted.

Oh my that looks good! It was a gimmick in the show, but the bikes did look pretty neat. At least as Universal didn't cheap out on giving them a fully fleshed out appearance. I'll bet that body they strapped to what looked like a Honda motorcross bike probably made the things hard to ride though.

Re: The Turbocycle from Galactica 1980 (that's right, GALACTICA 1980!)

I used the tires, fork and handlebars from a 1/6 dirtbike collectable toy from TRU. Other than that, its entirely scratch. I used mostly Sintra plastic and a small amount of styrene.

Yes, I always liked this design because they went further away from the bike look and really made it look like something from the BSG universe. Other sci-fi bike designs (like Streethawk) really never deviated enough from the basic real-world design of a motorcycyle- probably because it would compromise what stunts they could do with the bike.

Re: The Turbocycle from Galactica 1980 (that's right, GALACTICA 1980!)

Thanks for all the compliments!

And as for kits- that's what I would love to do, but I'm just not sure there would be enough interested folks to justify the mold costs.

I suppose I could start an interest list- post here if you want to be on it!

Great work Bradleyfett!

Here is a great reference link from Kenneth A. Larson. Shows the base model Yamaha MX 175, build up pics, and tells the sad woes of not meeting a deadline.

I have very fond memories of the Galactica 1980 bikes it looks like you have really done them justice!

Molding the parts would not be that expensive... and castings would easily cover the cost of the mold.

Great job!

Thanks- yea, I don't think it would take very many sales to cover the cost of the molds, etc.- certainly no more than a half dozen.

Re: The Turbocycle from Galactica 1980 (that's right, GALACTICA 1980!)

The scale makes it ideal for use with either the Apollo or Starbuck 12" figs - while the sculpts may not be the best, the costumes and accessories are outstanding and would more than compliment that kit...

That was the intention all along- its why I chose 1/6 scale. I will likely transplant the costume onto a more articulated figure. All I need now is someone to sculp me a 1/6 Kent McCord head!!

I seem to remember a set of flat "wings" here the foot pegs were.. Was I imagining them?

Not very big, but noticable

The wings are those panels on the front wheel and just behind the seat; they fold down/up respectively for flight.
