    May 30, 2012 - TOS Enterprise Question #1

I have been looking around the web and can't seem to find out about something on the bottom of the primary hull. At about 45 degrees of the axis of the ship, facing aft, there are two radial lines (?), one on eather side.
What are they? Do they stick out from the hull surface? Some drawings do not have them. Some drawings do. Some show them in the elevation drawings. Can anyone enlighten me please?

I don't see any radial lines on the saucer bottom. Do you have a pic to show what you mean? There are two concentric lines that match your description, 45 degrees from center and facing aft. These are red stripes.

If it's the red arcs, I always figured it was some kind of warning zone for the bussard collectors just beyond for whatever reason. Sort of how some jet aircraft have red warning lines around the intakes.

They are there, most likely they were painted on. This is a pic of the studio model.
The drawings around the web are not the best source.
Since they are fan made, they are not going to be consistent.

Steve, do you see any trenches, Oops, I mean gridlines.

That makes sense, they line up perfectly with the nacelles.

I think you may be right! I always assumed they were decorative more so than functional; however your explanation makes a lot of sense! Aircraft usually have them marking the plane of rotation for jet engines or prop driven aircraft.
