Can anyone tell me if there is a kit out there that is the same 'model' plane seen in Sky Captain? I would also need some accurizing decals and such. Not so much into military vehicles, but since this plane has a sci-fi flavor to it, I am all for it.
Fantastic Plastic actually sells this as the Manta Fighter. I've never bought from them, but I haven't heard anything specificly bad or good. Neat other stuff there, too. Fantastic Plastic Virtual Museum Store - On-Line Catalog
I thought a P-40 model was sold in stores when the movie came out.

Yeh it's definately a P-40 Warhawk, I bet Revell have one in their lovely range of warbirds at 1/48, which would make a great base for conversion.
Closest P-40 to modify IMHO is the P-40N. The area behind the cockpit is wide enough to stick in a second seat for Polly if one wants to and the clear rear window piece can be painted up like the Sky Captain canopy easily enough. The other P-40 variants get a bit narrow behind the pilot seat. Somewhere in storage I have a partly converted Academy 1/72 scale P-40N. I would like to finish it, although I am a bit tied up with other projects at this time.

The only p-40's that had nose guns were the early straight p-40's and the tomahawks (ended with the c model)
