I know this has been asked before but I didn't get a clear answer... How would you paint up a robocop helmet to match the robocop 2 colors. I was thinking silver for the helmet then spray a light coat of light blue and violet on top of that. How do you get the multicolor effect though? If anyone has painted one up before can you please give me some tips. I know Fettster did I believe that he sold a while back. Anyone????

I would look up threads on starship modeler for a member named raist, he did the most beautiful motion picture enterprise with all the irridescent paints, i forget what kind he used.

I've done it before, but it might not be exactly right to others. What I did was to put a clear pearl that flopped from red to violet on him. It looked good on the blue parts too. I'm not sure if it's totally accurate, but I liked the effect.

I did it about 15 years ago in college. I used a spray gun to shoot it but it can be done with an airbrush. What I used is an automotive clearcoat with that color flop. This was in Detroit where it was easier to find pint size clear coats because of the auto biz.

I just googled 'pearl clear coat model paint' and came up with a testors spray can. I would try that, but I'm not sure it flops to the blue/purple I think you're looking for.

    I hope that helps!

The typical pearl goes from a yellow-ish to red/blue as I remember, so I'm not sure if that's what you want. Mention 'red to blue flop' when ordering any real auto clear coats.

You need "shifting" colors wich are really hard to work with.I'm not even sure what they used when the original suite was made?I've seen some mettalic shift colorls in Kragens/Napa Auto parts. The color of the suit shifted from a metallic blue to slight purple hue with metallic silver. You might want to try Kustom Kolor, they make all kinds of tick paints for the auto industry.Mostly urethanes, but some enamels as well.

In RoboCop 2 the suits were primarily a metallic blue silver, with varying shades of blue, purple and pink on top of that. Depending on the production, there was also a minty green undercoat that read as metallic silver on film. The suits from the first film and The Series tended to have this... the RC2 suits seem to be an exception, and appear to be similar in color in real life and on film stock.

    IIRC these pics are of:

    Stunt chest/feet from The Series

    Hero legs/feet from RoboCop 2

Schminke is an art manufacturer of allot of different art supplies. They make water colors, acrylic paints, oil paints, pastels and....acrylic inks which are really more like acrylic paints "airbrush ready" with a little bit of thinning.Despite their expense(Schminke is expensive) they make a line of metallic/flip flop acrylic inks. They make two or three different "silver" metalic inks and a silver with a "blue" hue/color shift, one that changes from green through violet and I think some other metallics like red, blue, copper etc, etc. The silver metallics with the blue color shift would be spectacular and I think with some experimenting and if you happen to be skilled with the airbrush...you can copy the paint skeme of Robocop's armor and pretty much be "dead on balls acurate".Give it a google search and look at the web site(you'll have to "click" it for English unless you read German) and tell me what you guys think?

Detale78, your approach should work fine: that IS the multicolour effect - as Neon Sentry has pointed out, I don't think you need real opalescent paints - just spray silver, then light random oversprays of metallic blue, violet and pink. I did that on a 1/6 and whaddya know? It looked fine!

Alclad make a series of color shifting paints.I would spray it silver and use Tamiya transperant colors to add the hue.
