Aug 11, 2010 - Randy Cooper Star Destroyer with lights. FINISHED #1

This is a current commission build. Its the resin 38 inch long Randy Cooper Stardestroyer. Ive been asked to light this too which is a real challenge. The main hull is made from 8 beautifully cast resin pieces. Ive bult the lower hull so far and alot of cutting and drilling have been required to allow for the fibre optics to be fitted. There will be hundreds fited to this , but im sure it will be worth the effort.

This is one of the underside building parts with the holes drilled

Due to the hull and the buildings both being solid i had to cut through the hull to get to the other part.

    More to come later...

Lots of hard work today. I swear that if i didnt have to add lights , this would have been built by now!
    Heres the side "trench" details.

Heres the backs. I had to drill and grind some parts out. The parts that are solid and further out need to be ground out to allow me to fit the fibre optics. It doesnt look like much , but it took me about 3 hours of work to get these done. I still have to drill the holes for the fibres yet too!

Heres the nose block. Again this is a solid piece so needs drilling and grinding again. This part has the fibres added.

    More tomorrow....

Kudos to you on the effort.

I've just bought my first Randy Cooper, the Tantive IV, and plan the Star Destroyer to be the next.

    Good luck on the build!

Good luck. I'm interested to hear the parts are 'beautifully cast'. When you say that, do you mean there are no bubbles and the small details don't have voids at all? Mine do, unfortunately.

I am currently building my second RC SD and there is a lot of warping, thickness issues, bubbles and flash.

Heres the latest progress on this. Yup theres been warpage, bubbles and over thick parts. Bit of a pain in the arse to build really. If it wasnt for the lighting it would have been done by now.
Ive put so many fibre optics into this so far that i have lost count.
Heres the photos. Apologies for the quality.

Brilliant! The lights really add scale to the ship. Are you going to light the engines too?

    Thanks Guys
I finished the radar array on top of the bridge today. Just needs painting.

I have also finally managed to fit the engines today. A couple of small items to add and the model will be finished.

Wanna see em lit? Oh OK then...

Heres a small peek inside before the insert goes in

    closer....

And there are all the fibre optics inside.
