Some awesome new detail pictures!
With every updates it get's better and better, I'm glad I'm on the list on this one.
I couldn't agree more. There are very few projects that make me more happy as progress continues........LOL. It's usually the opposite for me. Like the MR protos........always perfect, then they make their "improvements".............."Shudder!!!!!". Randy is quite the artisan.
This is gonna be the model to end all models...
I'm thinking about contacting Randy to see if I can visit his work area since he's local.... I'd be Very interested to see his work-in-progress in person!
In case y'all didnt know.
I am handling sales for Randy,..as usual.
We did a "pre-order" of 20 units to finance the remainder of the project.
It is typical of how we produce Randys kits.
The master is still a month or two from being finished, and then comes the daunting task of making it a viable resin kit.
the first 20 will go to the pre-order folk and then it will be in production for anyone who wants one. No set limit at this time.
Soooo....is my kit ready?
Just kidding - always willing to wait for goodness
If that was the plan, may I give some advice? You should have done a preorder of 50 instead of 20. Why limit the trip money - you're not thinking ahead. Between living in Belize and buying a supply of fake beards to stay hidden, you are going to be broke soon.
Hey AP for those of us who don't frequent the other forums, can you give us a breakdown of what the kit will include? I've read several things about it but I haven't seen a definitive list of the features of the kit (I know that things change so it would be more of a "hope to include" list). For instance, I see the main hull master is being done in plexi, but I've heard that the hull is planned to be cast all in one piece in resin. This would obviously make it more difficult to light overall. So what is the plan for it then?
And YES I really do want one of these guys! Hehehe!
The hull is being rotocast in one piece in resin.

Oh and saying "well you could just not light it up" is like say Star Trek 5 was the best trek movie ever..... This monster screams "LIGHT ME"!
If roto is ultimately the final decision, how are the side trenches going to be handled? Separate detail pieces that are added on or will they already be cast on the piece? Same with the upper hull sections... additional parts or already molded-on pieces?
Hehehe yeah I know more and more questions.... only because I'm already starting to make plans for this kit!
I actually inquired about the size of the hull and rotocast. I was assured that the machinery exists to do this properly... but yes its still a valid concern. Properly done rotocasting does not have the truly thin spots you mentioned - that is what happens whne somebody that is inexperienced with rotocasting does it the first few times. There is a technique invovled (so I'm told) that yeilds very uniform thicknesses. Since Randy spent the time to find someone to do it professionally I'm hoping the person knows what they are doing
I have faith in Randy's ability to know what would work for these kits.
We all know they won't be detail accurate.
As for possible sag? There are all kinds of options to keep that from happening. The builder would just need to get creative IF that were to be possible. I don't believe Randy will let it get that far, however.
I am just glad that someone is FINALLY offering kits of them in large scale. Of course, that will never stop the more accurate "one offs" from being done. I have one planned for '08 as well. But at least these are options that never existed for us all before Randy's endeavor!
So I say... Thank You Mr Cooper!
Just to be clear this will be an 8 foot long kit based on the 36" ESB? An 8 footer would look awesome next to my 9 foot Concorde.
Did I accidentally imply that it wold be an 8 foot version of the 3 foot SD? If I did I apologize its a just over 3 foot version of the 8 foot SD model.
I don't even wht to contemplate the shipping charges for an 8 foot SD...Oh My...
But I am certain once an 8 footer was in front of each of us... we would consider it sooooooooo worth it! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Nope, no 8 footer for me. 3 footer is pushing it for space as is.
Yep but 500 bucks a 8 footer, it would be a great deal !
Ok great,........ so an 8 footer it is
