Dec 20, 2007 - Question about Star Trek IV HMS Bounty BOP #1

I am a huge fan of the Klingon BOP especially in Star Trek IV. Dont ask me why it is one of my favorite trek movies, i know a lot of people hate it
Anyway, i came across a so called conversion kit for the HMS Bounty on ebay. Here is a picture of how it is claimed to be attached to the ERTL kit.

It is the part which is molded in white resin.
My question is, are there really any differences between the HMS Bounty and the other BOP?

The two big differences (dumb ones IMHO), are the "Whale Doors" of which you have pictured and the landing gear comes out of the wings.
Because the Whale Doors cover the existing gear position, they had to move the location of the struts.

I always thought it was a bit odd that the Vulcan engineers saw fit to not only repair and refuel the BOP, but to also totally reconfigure the landing gear system and add expanded cargo capacity.

There is also an escape hatch added to the bridge IIRC.

I didn't remember seeing that in the movie, might have had something to do with the ship being cloaked for most of the film

I loved Star Trek IV. It was different enough to interest people who aren't typically into sci fi.

I'm always flummoxed trying to reconcile the fullscale ship segment used on set to the model. The only part that would be low enough to be seen behind people standing on the ground would be under the wings, but there they are in broad daylight. And I doubt McCoy's "HMS Bounty" addition is on the model, either.

Y'gotta love the design! The canon explanation for it has always been lacking...& of course the scale, details, etc...

I can recall the first time I saw it on the movie poster, Whilst taking my sweetheart to some abysmal 1983 excuse for a movie, thinking "How the hell does THAT fit into the line of Klingon designed ships" In the midst of my "FASA" addled brain. (Hey! That's the best there was at the time!).

Let me give you a tip...Get yourself a cheap-arse DVD at the wally-mart ($7.50 for the deluxe versions as of this evening)...Listen to the stories of the folks that got the damn movie made 25 years ago & plot the whole thing out...THen revel in the fact that the miniatures DON'T match the full scale set! Changing either costs the studio lots of MONEY! (Which they DON't LIKE!) Then, after you're acclimated to that fact. Find a copy of "Inside Star Trek" by Justman and Solow. Find out how "inatenttive to detail" the people who make this entertainment get when they are expected to get this stuff done when charged by the hour... and overtime by the unions...THATS where the inconsistencies creep up!

You are free to make any ideas that make sense to YOU, THE TRUTH! (As long as you don't stiff Paramount a couple of bucks from it...)

    anyways, Good luck on that!

One of the reasons why i like IV is because it is about the only Trek movie which doesnt feature any of the Federation's saucer type starships.
I always felt that the saucer at the front looks out of place. Perhaps i am one of the minorities who doesnt like any of the Federation ships.
I remember the first time when i watched IV and i was like, wow! The BOP design is so perfect that they dedicated an entire movie just for it!
