    Dec 6, 2010 - proper color for a model brain? #1

I have a pair of models of human brains and I was wondering what color pink I should use to paint it.

I'm not sure what to suggest for you, but I was thinking gray?

Anyway, I saw your post and this was the first thing I thought of:

    Freakflex Home

I've never used it, but I've read great things about it in Amazing Figure Modeler

"Despite being referred to as "grey matter", the live cortex is pinkish-beige in color and slightly off-white in the interior."

I would go with a custom color that would be closest to WWII "officer's pinks".

It's a tan khaki with a pinkish under-hue. Think Indiana Jones' pants in ROTLA.

Best way to do it, if using tamiya acrylics, would be a base coat of tan, followed by a light mist of clear red and over-coated with another light mist of the base tan.

I'd have at least two base colors, tan and a darkened version of the tan, to create tonal variation of the undercoat. Then once you're done, thin the darkened version and use it as a wash to add depth to the folds.

A living brain is on the pink side because of the blood. If it's been around for a while it's more gray.
