THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 12/23 - UPDATED BUILDS AND MORE! p.6

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 1/21 PRESSURE DOORS, ISOLATION p.4

Those alien sculpts are fantastic!

I assume they're all going to be fully articulated 'action figures' like your crew members?

Fantastic work on those Aliens (pro work for sure:cool), not to piggy-back on your thread, but I found one of the project for a Nostromo corridor...not the same quality as yours sadly:(View attachment 276635

Thanks joberg! Thie image you shared was actually one of the dios that inspired me to get into this project - I fell in love with that piece. I can't remember who the artist is unfortunately.

Thanks Mike and yes - all fully articulated :)

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 12/23 INNER LOCK HATCH page 3

Sure Bondo - I am using Smooth-On products. The molding is Mold Star 15 SLOW which is a Platinum silicone and the casting material I am using is Smooth-cast 320 which is a off-white urethane plastic that is great for prototyping. Can get expensive at times depending on the project but I do want to replicate and keep the masters in a safe place. The laser cutting isn't cheap and I'd hate to ruin a master if I went wonky on the paint job :(

Thanks, I figured it would be Smooth-On. I love their products, but I've had a terrible time with the Mold Star silicone- major cure inhibition issues that I could never resolve, except that it had something to do with the material the model was made from- MDF. Their Mold Max tin cure silicone is very user-friendly, though. PS- thanks for the continued updates, I am very impressed with your craftsmanship.

Sithfire, the corridor was built by me:$ I first posted it on Propsummit, years ago, as a future project that never materialized, as well as "Kane Airlock" 001.JPG

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 1/21 PRESSURE DOORS, ISOLATION p.4

I designed new parts for the 1:18 Nostromo build to be laser cut and have been waiting over the past week or so for them to arrive - looks as though I will be getting half of the projects in the mail tomorrow. The rest next week. I will be sure to document the builds from start to finish.

Till then I have assembled a preliminary build of a "possible" Nostrmo corridor using the parts already created to get a sense of how to parts work together, scale and depth. Not of any particular corridor seen in the film...it will eventually. The figure you see down the corridor is my 1:18 sculpt of Ash. More of the sculpted characters, along with new Nostromo builds and my first Sevastopol (ALIEN: Isolation) build coming soon!

Beautiful stuff you've created here and really eager to see more as the whole project goes forward:cool ...and thanks for the kind words, projects are only that; sometime it never takes off or other stuff gets priority (the Voight-Kampff machine was one of those challenge). But I bow at your level of accuracy and especially the "look" you've achieved in your sculpts and corridors. Keep up the good work!

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 2/5 Quick Corridor Builds p4

Just found this thread and I'm amazed!
Please tell me you or someone will be offering these as castings in the future?

Please tell me this is gonna be a kit....

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 2/5 Quick Corridor Builds p4

Thanks Lee for posting at fb :)

I'm following at flickr for some time now. So goid to see all these here in thsthread. Amazing work! Your progress of lasercutting the sheets inspired me to try it with a current project.
Amazing sculpting skills - just whow.!

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 2/5 Quick Corridor Builds p4

Thank you all for your comments! I do hope to release sections of this project as kits...not sure when and they will be very limited. I'll be sure to give all those interested plenty of "heads up" time before I release anything. :)

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 2/28 Assembly work!!!

Had received some of my laser work back from the cutter and have started assembly or doors and surfaces to parts of the corridors.

Rough assembly - not pretty - YET! This can give you an idea on what a sectional kit would look like. Full resin copy. Nice and heavy :)

I also had time to sculpt a bit on "The Beast" - 1:18 scale. What you see below are castings from original sculpted work - right now I'm sculpting the lower legs and feet. Have many more details to add to the articulated figure but at this point I'm happy how it's turning out. Alternate heads are also in the works! :)

The figure will be double ball jointed. I'm thinking about sculpting a segmented tail...not sure yet.

That's is for right now - more updates to come soon!!! :)

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors -4/11 - Sleep Chamber build

With all the walls, floors, corridors, control panels etc. that I am building to create a 1:18 diorama of the Nostromo interior, one room that I've been particularly looking forward to building has been the Hypersleep Room.

20120108-165907_zpsb1c41f92.jpg

Before I build the flower-like apparatus for the six crew members, I need to build a single hypersleep pod. Once complete I can replicate the pod 6 times and build the apparatus that will bring them together to form the flower-like form.

This is a project that is currently a work in progress.

First I began by building the base of the sleeping pod, using my "Lucky Star" Ripley sculpt (WIP) as a model to determine length. Used sheet styrene for this step.

SLEEP-CHAMBER_zps40974f6b.jpg

Next I used Monster Clay to capture the shape of main body of the pod.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-2_zps42e7e9e1.jpg

SLEEP-CHAMBER-3_zps6b82f6d7.jpg

Once the shape is roughly refined, time to hollow out the cavity where the crew member will sleep.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-6_zpsdfb7f855.jpg

Tested the cavity to make sure a standard figure will fit inside.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-5_zps9488e236.jpg

After refining the sculpt to the best of my ability, I make a mold and cast the form in plastic to continue the refinement. Here is a shot of the first casting next to the - no mangled - monster clay sculpt. The original sculpt is no longer needed but will hold on to it till the pod if finalized.

...and yes, that is a 1:18 scale Kane (chestburster version) and the galley chairs - two casts from original sculpt.

10177250_754868157870226_1426521676552040859_n_zps041333af.jpg

Refined and replicated again, this time making two copies - one to sculpt the bedding inside the pod and the other to begin making the form that will be used to vacuum form the canopy.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-13_zpsadf90792.jpg

Below are images of the completed bedding inside the refined pod....sculpted using Aves FIXIT sculpt.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-17_zpse31f97fe.jpg

and test shots of the pod with the vacuum formed canopy placed on top.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-15_zpsb1060eb6.jpg

and another test with the figure inside.....

SLEEP-CHAMBER-16_zps2f4a7543.jpg

Now - I will be sculpting non-articulated figurines to fit within each pod. The "Lucky Star" figure looks a bit awkward inside the pod but the final figure will appear comfortably asleep.

An adjustment I will need to make to the canopy form - currently in profile view you can see the canopy is more rounded than flat. The comparison shows how the final canopy will appear. I plan to make those adjustments over the weekend.

SLEEP-CHAMBER-19_zps9a971976.jpg

A thin styrene frame will be made for the canopy though the canopy itself will not be permanently attached to the pod but be held in place by an apparatus behind the pod.

So this is where I am currently with the pod - I hope to have the pod finalized this weekend and can begin replicating the 6 pods to begin working on the rest of the Nostromo Sleep Chamber as well as the pod(s) found on the Narcissus shuttle.

So I am SUPER BUSY with this crazy hobby!!!! LOL! - Fortunately I'm having fun with all these crazy parts around. Hopefully soon things will begin coming together into "sectional" dioramas. That's the plan anyway.

Hope you guys enjoy and thanks once again for the help, comments and suggestions!

Re: THE NOSTROMO - 1:18 Scaled Interiors - 4/11 Sleep Chamber build and more!! p4

Excellent work Mr Sith. Your C Deck wall grilles make my cardboard ones with slots cut out look puny by comparison!

I believe the OP of this thread is guilty of nothing but witchcraft! This is really clean work man. I'm really dig'n it. Can't wait to see more.
