Aug 1, 2010 - New Member: Wanted to Show off my finished models #1

Hello, I'm new here and I just wanted to show the models that I have recently completed in the past year. I started to become interested in modeling when I first found a 10 year old F-4J Phantom kit in my basement that was still new in the box.

I decided to put it together and realized that I really enjoyed putting it together and painting it, so I decided to try another airplane kit after i finished the first one and bought a revell P-40B Tigershark and it was a very cheap kit to put together.

After, i decided it was time to invest in an airbrush and try it out on a Tie Interceptor MPC kit that I bought off of ebay for $2. I added a lot of detailing to the kit and even started to experiment with fiber optics.

After making a lot of mistakes I learned a lot from the experience and invested my money into a much higher quality resin 16" Nautilus. This was my favorite kit to put together in my short time modeling because of not only the ease of putting it together, it also was extremely detailed. The only thing that I didn't like about the kit was the very simple base that it came with. I decided to build my own so it looked like it was floating through a series of rocks and I even added in blue LEDs to illuminate the bottom. After all of the modifications I made to it, I am really happy with the way that it turned out and is my favorite display piece to date. Let me know what you think and if you want to see more detailed pics of anything just let me know I have plenty

Nice work. My favorite is the Interceptor flying over the Death Star pipes

Nice job on those, Joe .

Really like the custom base for the Nautilus. If I may make one suggestion though; see if you can find some clear, acrylic rod and use it to raise the Nautilus a bit off the rocks, so it doesn't look like Nemo ran her aground .

Thanks for the kind words guys! Gigatron, its funny I was considering using acrylic rod originally until I saw an old diorama on the internet where it gave the perspective that the nautilus was swimming in between the rocks from a certain angle. The picture that I posted kind of ruined the illusion but looking at it from the mantle where it is displayed gives a better appearance because it is higher than eye level. I'll post some more pictures soon

WOW! Your Nautilus is gorgeous! What kit is it? I've always loved that boat, and am thinking it may be time to add one to my collection!

This is a Scott Brodeen 16" model that I bought from this website, Nautilus Drydocks model kits and more!, it was an amazing kit to build and the all of the rivets and other tiny details look amazing even though this was the smallest and cheapest kit, for $125. compared to the other ones offered, the 66" one for about $1700(currently sold out I think), and the 30" one for $450, this was the best way to go in my opinion, especially if display space is an issue!
