New life for Fine Molds SW kits?

so you're thinking that Revell bought the Fine Molds tooling, and are repopping their kits?

What about the parts count? The Master Series Falcon with the Bespin artwork has a 120 pieces

Starship modeller lists the FM Falcon at 900+ parts

Holy ******!

Millennium Falcon OVERLOAD!!!!!!

Brilliant,........If it's not the FM tooling,......perhaps they are making something MORE accurate,......DeAgostini have the dimensions,.....Hasbro have the right shape......

Exciting times

They could just be coming out with their own "new tool" and "stole" FM artwork.

And yay, the first kits from TFA will kiddie snap kits!!! Yay!!!!!! Yippeeee!!!!!!

:thumbsdown

the part count is the same as the old MPC/ERTL kit from 1989 according to this:
http://www.starwarsmodels.com/mf.html

so yeah, I predict a wave of disappointed buyers when that kit hits
or maybe they did buy the fine molds tooling, and someone put the wrong card in front of it, cuz that first Master Series model (with the kit on the box) looks like a modified AMT/Ertl to me. (Noting the gun and radar dish)

the X-wing has a 120 part count as well (the one with the FM artwork)

The artwork on the 120 piece kit has appropriate size sidewalls. Hopefully it will accurate to the artwork.

This is a basic Ps comp,....keeping the scale of the tags,.....the MF with the FM art looks huge.....even compared to the Easy-kit Falcon,.....it looks the size of the existing FM 1'72

Hmmmmm it's a weird mix.
Some Finemolds artwork...and some Revell?? There's always been a colossal difference between the two manufacturers in terms of accuracy and finesse.....All the boxes with photographs (as opposed to paintings) are just the exact same Revell kits that they've done in the past, which is of course not promising considering how much work their older releases needed (the Falcon especially)

I really hope Revell aren't just repackaging old moulds, but I wouldn't put it past them.......still, very VERY interesting that Revell now seem to own the rights to the Finemolds box artworks..........HMMM

I guess the big question is, what's more likely? That Revell was able to buy the tooling from Finemolds? Or that Disney just rented out the art to Revell after the FM license expired?

Oh my! Nice detective work Jaitea. At first I was thinking the Fine Molds Falcon might be the 1/144, but the sheer size of that box pretty much confirms it will likely be the 1/72 offering. Seeing it come back out from Revell is a most excellent thing. I'm curious to see how it will price out compared to the original release, which was pushing close to $200 even before shipping.

Concerning the X-Wing and TIE Fighter, I've been hearing they will be 1/48 scale. But the box art on the mock ups looks to be what was used with the 1/72 scale kits. Curiouser and curiouser!

Don't believe that for a minute. It's just a promotional ticket made up for the display and NOT on the box itself. The title MASTER SERIES indicates a higher level of experience required as well as a more detailed kit. I'd bet anything that the Master Series kits are the Fine Molds kits.

I think I got one of the last 1/144 falcons off the line and I gotta say, there was a LOT more flash than there was the first time I got that kit.

So in some ways, they were already becoming a revell kit

Undoubtedly

It's a tough call. I bought two 1/72nd Falcons a few months ago, with the intention of keeping one and flipping the other. One of them is already claimed as a commission piece I'm working on, and the other was intended for myself.....with the (surprisingly large) amount of corrections the Finemolds kit needs I'm wondering if I should just try and sell on my spare Falcon right away.....

Too soon, and we might discover that no, the Revell kit isn't the Finemolds repackaged...
Too late and I might have a kit I paid £90 +import duties and shipping for, that I won't make any profit on at all......

I guess it's just a case of waiting and seeing what happens, the Finemolds Falcon is a hefty kit at 3kg per kit, and the price tag wasn't exactly pocket money.
If Revell DO own the FM moulds then I'm willing to bet that they simplify the construction so it'll sell for less.

IN WHICH case the full 900+ piece Finemolds kit would still retain value?
