    Nov 4, 2007 - New Cylon Razor helmet #1

I made real first attempt today at making a prop. I have done other simple casting items before, but never have worked from the ground up with a 25 lb block of clay before till today. I did get some help with this via a shell of a original Cylon to help this take form. After that it was the rest me. I pressed the clay into the plastic helmet, and popped it out then started the work. Four hours later the below photos are the result of my time.

Note that the last photo isn't the finished design. I made a slight change before I made the insert.
So thumbs up, or go back and try again?

Without a pic to compare it's hard to tell. Looks like a great start though! What are the differences between the Razor version and the OS version?

I guess a photo of the redesigned original Cylon would have been nice, so here it is. Also the 3rd photo down shows the original shell design on the right side of the photo.

Looks like you're off to a good start. Of course, there's is the duplicating for the second side.

Also, that detail piece behind the jowel, in the 'photo', it appears the vent shapes are closer to parallel, not sun shine patterned. Of course that could be what you were referring to about an insert.

Nah, I'd put it in the prop section, you couldn't wear something like this as a full suit. (if you've seen these re-imagined Cylons, you'd know what I mean)

Yes your correct about the insert "jowl". That was a quick hold over item just for the photo. I plan on detailing out that section a bit more, and also replace that inserted piece, with some more details that aren't seen in the photo.

Here is a photo high lights some of the difference in the original Cylon, and the Razor Cylon.

Note the tail end of the Mohawk is feathered down, or drops off much slower, over the 45 degree cut on the original.
The Mohawk forehead is now curved in, not a straight cut down.
The jaw section drops down lower, and extends foreword a bit more. Also has a more square cut, over the pie slice angel.
An exposed area in the jaw section for a hinge area.
The eye scanner section as been expanded out to the side with a ramped down section that not in this photo incorporates into the Darth Vader flared section.
The most notable change is the left and right side of the lower rear section of the helmet. The base flairs out with a Darth Vader type of look, or feel to the helmet.
I think over all the redesign of this Cylon is great. Too bad a wearable version can't be made.

Thanks, it will be a bit more work than I expected, but I haven't given up yet. I'll post more photos as things progress.
