Is there still a source for either of these products in the US, or do I have to (attempt to) buy direct from Japan? My LHS says both are out of commission thanks to California.

I've run into a jam due to no primer being offered by Tamiya. But I'm a bit unclear what you mean in the bold statement.

Is "LHS" Local Hobby Supplier?

I'm glad they're not in short supply here. Just checked my LHS and it doesn't appear to me that they're running out of 'em soon. Unless that's the last batch:wacko I didn't dare ask - lest they give me sad news.

Didn't I read somewhere here that they will be re released but with the packaging ie can with English text/wording insteadi of Japanese?

No problems getting Mr Surfacer at my local shop. I haven't seen anything on any new California VOC paint requirements kicking into effect that would effect any paint supplies in SEMA or the Car Club boards.

Do they have the Tamiya Light Grey Primer? If so, buy it all up for me!

I just checked with the place I buy most of my paints - Out of Stock :(

But I did Google Tamiya Primer and found places that are "supposed" to have it but cannot vouch for any of them.

^Yes, it is.

I've come to understand that the labeling issue is holding up the import to the US of these products, mandated by California requirements, so therefore follows Oregon. Please pardon my earlier glib remark, I could have been clearer.
My guy at the hobby shop says it'll eventually be solved by the companies changing the labels, or printing them in English, he believes/hopes. Hopefully I can buy 'em from Canada?

Bought a rattle spray can of Mr. Surfacer 500 at my LHS yesterday. They also had Tamiya grey primer. I have tons of primer so I didn't get any but I can't wait to try out spraying the Mr. Surfacer. Up 'til now I've just brushed it on.
