I just order my 2nd Salzo 37.5 TOS Galactica and I have a quick question for those of you have built Mike Salzo 37.5 TOS BSG Kit what would you recommend using for epoxy should I use 5 minute epoxy or something else ?

I am basically been trying to follow Mike build and I will be doing most of everything that Mike has done like using Bolts and nuts to add more stabilization and stronger support..I think the only difference is I be using mostly LED lighting on my build vs Fiber Optics there will be some but mostly LED's...I am still not sure let and if I was to use Fiber Optics what size would you all recommend..

Thank You for any help I get..

I just kept sending Mike a PM until he got back to me that is all I did and if his inbox was full,I would post in his thread here http://www.therpf.com/f11/37-1-2-in...battlestar-galactica-scratchbuild-2-a-194215/about the TOS Galactica..It sometimes took him awhile to get back to me but he eventually did get back to me,I would just keep send Mike a PM he will get back to you..

Thanks for the info, I just thought there might have been somewhere else to contact him or I was doing something wrong.
Cheers,

Hey Guys, first as far as PM's and emails go, i do try to get back to everyone, but the last couple of months has been an absolute blurr of activity. I won't repeat the whole story but my wife was out of work for a few months and I took on way more work than i usually do to make ends meet. That along with Wonderfest and another trip added to the chaos, somewhere in there i am sure i missed some PM's and emails, and i apologize for that. I'm sure it's worse if you have emailed me 3x and gotten no response, that may be a spam filter thing or something. PMing here is the best bet, as long as my PM box is not full!

I am pretty caught up on orders and i am making yet another set of molds for the BSG as we speak, so i will still be taking some orders since i have had to remold a lot of major parts. In fact i have almost never stopped making molds for one part or another thru the run, but i am doing some of the big stuff again this week.

As for epoxy, I do like the 5 minute Gorilla glue that you can get at home depot. But if you build a lot it gets pretty expensive, there is kind of a small container premium on it. I think you would need 2 tubes along with a bottle of CA to do a BSG. If you build a lot with 5 minute stuff i use this.

System Three 1000K10 5 Minute Quick Cure Epoxy, 1/2 Pint Kit: Epoxy Adhesives: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific

You get more for your $ and it's as strong as the Gorilla glue IMO.

As for Fiber Optics, I used .75, it's a bit out of scale compared to the studio model, I think it would be .5 if you wanted to keep the same scale. I like the .75 because it kind of showed a bit more for the "windows". On the bridge if you use the .75 it adds a level of detail even when the lights are off IMO.

I still plan a 2nd, separate thread for my 2nd build, which may not happen until like August, I need to get out the rest of the orders and prep for the class i am teaching at Jerseyfest.

Thanks for everyones patience with the PM situation, once i get caught up i hope to be back to my old self in that regard!

I had mentioned that I had Mike's phone number in another thread about Wonderfest, and some have asked if I could call him to let him know that people were trying PM him. I'm sorry, but Mike gave me that number expressly for contacting him at Wonderfest (which I flubbed up on anyway by not writing it down correctly before the show!). But, I think it would be out of line for me to call up Mike and say "Hey, check your PM's". If Mike wants anyone else to have his number, they will have to get it from him.

Sorry guys...

True, I think I have been the cause of four other sales on different forums!

By the way how is your build coming along?,do you know what happened with Lynx build I was hoping to see some of his add ons he made to sell they where very nice and would like to get some of his parts, the only thing I would not know is if he did make them to sell how long it would take to get to New York since I think he lives in Germany..

Lynx posted a short while ago he has put his build on hold due to a lack of motivation until next year. Mine is currently on hold until I finish a few outstanding projects on the bench. I do have a friend rendering a new bridge for printing for me. If Mike wants one to cast I will let him have one, if not, I will sell them to those who want one. I can't sell them here on the RPF as I am not a "Premium" member here.

Same here for one or two, by showing the kit at a collector event :)

I finished the (very) tedious process of cleaning all the parts (bubbles, casting defects...) - 2/3 months ! - and started to accurize some parts.
The next step is to reinforce it for a one point support, and make different ways of support (from the bottom of course, but also from the side and from the top) to allow different exhibit solutions.
I think I will be able to start a WIP thread in 4 or 5 weeks.

Are these already made for the BSG or do they need to be cast?

LOL, I don't think Mike needs help selling them!!!

the funny thing is, in a conversation he and I were had before he announced the sale of this kit, mike didn't think it would be a popular seller, so he thought it best to keep the price low....... to help it sell lol , now he's knee deep in resin for the next year :lol

I think in his thread he says something to that effect as well. I've said it before he could have added another $300 to the base price and still sold a ton of them! Between this and his X-Wing series these are the best resin kits on the market.

Ranger, if I wind up selling them I will try my hand at casting them. Or I will sell 3D printed versions. Or, I'm not really sure. I hope the render will be done soon though.

Sounds good looking forward to see if you will cast and sell them..

Have another question for you all,I am terrible in math and I ordered some Custom Size Grid Material - 20° Light Diffusion from.Custom Size Grid Material - 20° Light Diffusion but order the wrong size I wanted to get enough to do my BSG when I start building it, but I need more of the Light Diffusion for another project I am looking at getting,

anyways I like to get at least a piece that is 20 inches wide by 18 inches long, can some one tell me what do I put in the places where it says inches and quantity to get a 20 inches wide by 18 inches long?

Sorry again I am just terrible at trying to figure square inches was never good with math..

Thank You
Clarence
