Between the Roddenberry and the Master Replicas Tricorder - both units are well constructed and look great, but for the price they should look mint ! The best unit overall has to be the Master Replica version when you can find one for 500.00 or less dollars. The Roddenberry unit has a dead screen with nothing behind it, at least Master Replicas did add a cheap l.e.d backlight display with moving flashes - an actual screen with download content would have been nice even for more money - but overall I still give the edge to Master Replicas. Roddenberry and his 800.00 dollars is just way off the mark here. For money wise purchase go with Diamond Select version and stick the extra 500.00 or 800.00 dollars in your wallet !
toy version (science) on ebay right now under $30 with about four days left -- search for:
Star Trek Original Series Classic Science Tricorder From Diamond Select Toys
The Roddenberry one was closest to what they looked like in series -- screen never did anything unless sfx screens were added in post optical effects and only in a few episodes was this even seen.
i did not see ANY listed on Rodd.com at all -- maybe they stopped carrying them.
MR one is nice...but as stated, both $500+
The Diamond Select toys were pretty nice for the money -- originally $50 or so, but now 2 to 3 times that -- unless you can get lucky and find a good price on ebay.
good luck.
anyone remember those kits that used to be on ebay in the late 90's?
the "23rd century" series? ie 23rd century pisol. 23rd century tricorder?
they were model kits of the TOS phaser 2 & tricorder. (sold separately)
anyone know what the tricorder kit is worth nowadays unbuilt?
