Re: Mars Attacks (saucer)
you know, i just watched the film, and im pretty disappointed that the toy saucer they sold during the film looked nothing like the one your making. Cant wait what you project looks like when its done. Are you planning on casting these? i'd love one these bad boys!

Re: Mars Attacks (saucer)
Thanks, glad you like it. Kit is possible, will let you know once i finish it. Will talk it over with my friend. If i do it, it will be styrene with laser cut acrylic legs. No resin because it would cost a fortune and weigh to much for the legs to support the weight.

Re: Mars Attacks (saucer)
any chance of having the "tongue" ramp in addition to the landing geat?
I'd be up for a kit as well |

That's nice and smooth. I like the size, big enough but not too HUMONGOUS.

Re: Mars Attacks (saucer)
OK , I was going to Vac form these, but its was going to be a little flimsy, so i decided to go old school on it. and make a concrete mold for laying up the Epoxy.
I mounted the parts on a piece of acyrlic, waxed them with 5 coats of wax. clayed the edges. Mixed up a smooth batch of Ultracal 30 tooling concrete and applied it to the parts. let it set for a bit, and mixed another batch. This time i added squares of Burlap to strengthen the concrete. let it set and there you go. Nice smooth mold for laying up fiberglass parts. Just wax the mold and go. Thanks for looking Al ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks guys, this stuff is great for parts that arent very detailed, 100lb bag goes for $25. Cant beat it.

Re: Mars Attacks (saucer)
Got a little more done on this, the lower section with the legs. Need to fill the hole near the foot and putty a few areas but its getting there. should have this finished up real soon.

That is very very exciting. great work on the legs again! It's going to look just as good as the film counterparts once its all done up!
