Humbrol model filler

Hi all

I was just after picking your brains. I currently use Humbrol model styrene filler for filling gaps in model kits, but with Humbrol now out of business, I wondered what other makes there were around that worked the same. (UK availble.)

Also I have a chum in the US who was asking after the same stuff but over there, so anyone in the US that knows of a good brand styrene filler please post so I can pass it on.

I'm pretty sure Humbrol were bought by Hornby (along with Airfix), so supplies should start flowing again soon. I was in my local Toys'r'us yesterday and they had a very healthy selection of Airfix kits, so it looks like things are moving again.
I myself, like to use Squadron green and Squadron white fillers (I use superglue a lot too)
You can get them from Hannants.

I have seen those two types of fillers in my local shop, but nobody there could say if they were the same as the humbrol, which bonds to the styrene like the glue.

any info on what its like to use would be good.

I run a model store here in the UK and we can order Humbrol model filler from Hornby the only thing at the moment is that they are not to quick at delivery. We stock squadron green putty and IMO it's alot better than Humbrol
...mind you when I was model making full time most model companies used P38 car filler.... best filler ever if you (or more likely the person you live with) don't mind the smell.

You know, I've thought about using P38 before, but I've always been concerned about it attacking the plastic.

I have to agree about Squadron green, I think it's better than the Humbrol stuff (I used to use Humbrol years ago).
I'm using green at the moment to fair in the nose on a MkII Viper. It sticks very well and sands nice as well.

Milliputs great stuff, it has to dry over night , but you can smooth it out with a wet finger, so less to sand down when it's hardened. Sands very easily tho..

Get the superfine white....it's a bit more money than the grey stuff but I find it easier to work as it's a bit softer. It can be used over a coat of primer, that way you can see where needs filling better anyway.

I actually think squadron putty is utter pants, its awful to use and falls out most the time, id go with Phil and use miliput, its great to use. The time in curing is long, but the finish is way better, squadron just bores me as i have to redo areas where it fails, miliput for me, superfine !
