Help with white on black finishing

All,

I have spent the better part of a couple hours trying to find the steel wool technique that was used on the ANH X-Wings. I have painted my Salzo with a black base coat and am getting ready to apply the white gloss over it. Can anyone chime in on the wool rub technique? I can find lots of reference to it being used, just not how to do it for best results.
