Halo: Pelican Dropship

Nice to see someone tackling this project.
I have 2 of these in pep files. I enjoy your detail work.

Thanks man. hope it works out

cheers mym8,i think it would be ashame if you go to all the work and dont bling up the cockpit!but thats just me....top marks so far cheers peza

mate i will try but i'm not so good yet :) lets see how it goes and i shall tackle it when i get there :thumbsup

BOLD #1: Yeah, it would be kewl, to say the least. To be perfectly honest though, after tackling the rear compartment I don't know if I'd want to do the cockpit as well, lol. But, it's definitely something for me to consider earlier on in the design process. Only problem is finding useable reference pics showing the cockpit, of which there aren't many.

agreed. but as i just said to peza, i will see when i get there. long way to go yet :) thanks for all the kind words man :)

haven't done anything of significance. just started some plating work. i was wondering how to tackle this bit and i found a method but it is kinda messy and clumsy. i don't want to scribe the thing since the material i am working with is not really scribing friendly so i have to do the tedious task of cutting individual plates out of a thinner sheet and stick them on. it's taking a while but on the whole i think it is a better way to go about this.

also i must again apologise for the picture quality. my workspace has really bad lighting and i only have my camera phone. the best i can do is increase the brightness and so on but that comes with it's own set of issues :facepalm

plates of different thicknesses...

i used tracing paper. yeah.

really professional stuff. you can see the blue pen marks i used to mark out where the plates will go. i'm fairly confident a spot of primer will solve that instantly but since i don't have some on me right now i'll leave it as it is and get back to it later.

this is it so far. the above two images are what faces the outside but i have no idea what the parts that face the inside look like in terms of plating and accents. anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Eric? i can't seem to find any reference pictures. i don't mind leaving it blank since it won't be seen anyway but i'll just feel...weird. so any input welcome.

thanks all.

BOLD # 1: I like your approach for doing the panelling; I'll be doing the same for mine when the time comes. First I've got to build it though :p lol

BOLD # 2: I'm not sure if there's actually any panel detailing on the side not seen, but I'll see if I picked up anything with those in-games pics I took. I'll let you know as soon as possible, dude :cool

Anyway, I'll be looking forward to seeing what else you've done with this build.

Btw, I finally downloaded the Pep file myself *does happy dance*, so once I've got a few other projects out of the way I'll be starting on my own such build :D

Work done so far very good, hope to return soon to do it again, it's nice to share when this good work is the result

Man feels good getting back to this...

so anyway after three helmets (2 daft punk and 1 stormtrooper) it was time to pick this up again and tackle a part which was honestly baffling me for a long time. Namely, this...

ref4_zps5cd7dd2c.jpg

So after some fiddling i came up with this. Unfortunately, due to the fiddling, i don't have much pictures. Lot's of work left but this was one of the reasons i had put this project on hold so it felt good to get this far.

time i tacked the top part so i started with this area...

and started with these...

DSC02984_zps6b746793.jpg

i have to fill it with some sort of filler and sand it to give me that nice round shape but still have to get around to it. moving on.....

and so...

It really is. I did a dry fit of all the parts i have so far and it looks freaking awesome. And HUGE.

Started to work on the main body.

I keep working on it during the evening. Unfortunately the lighting at that time is really bad so no process pictures. Not much to show really. Not much different that putting a kit together. Also the material i'm working with has a lot of issues. It tends to shred leading to stuff like this...

DSC03017_zps4b8c16dd.jpg

which means i have a heck of a lot of filling, sanding and clean up to look forward too. Should be worth it though. Can't wait to finish assembling the main structures, fiberglass the insides for rigidity and get started on the filling and sanding. Should look pretty good once those horrible gaps and pits are all filled and smooth. That's all for now.. :)

Thanks! work continues. Added more details to the top part

And i couldn't resist putting it all together for a quick preview.
