    Oct 18, 2008 - GMC Fishbowl Bus, WIP #1

Howdy folks, on this thread I’m gonna dump all my work in progress pictures of my GMC Fishbowl bus project from the movie, Speed.

I’m not gonna say much (with my crappy English), I think the pictures speak more then a thousand words, in every language.
Off course, if you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer them.

excellent. i like to see how accurate and realistic looking real-world subjects can get. There's more to this than just spaceship models...not that i don't like those either

Very cool, I am looking forward to watching the progress on this. As everyone else has said, this it is indeed refreshing to see movie models beyond starships and space fighters. Not that there is anything wrong with this, but this is a very good break from those projects.

    Thanks a lot people

Yeah, it’s not a model you see every day, I’m always looking for stuff that’s unique and original. I think because it’s a real-world object, the accuracy is very important to achieve, perhaps more important then the usual starfighters and other fictional stuff.

About the accuracy, my main goal is to make the outside of the bus as accurate as possible.
The inside of the bus is going to be less accurate, but not less fun to look at. (with on-board camera)

The scale of the bus is 1/12, it’s pretty big

Not your typical build you see here, one of the reasons I'm liking this so much! So far it's really looking great! I'll be following your progress on this for sure!

I think this is brilliant! I can't wait to see this finished. I used to take the Big Blue Bus (that's what these are called in Santa Monica) all the time. They have since replaced all the older GMC BBB's with newer ones. Too bad or I could've got you tons of reference pics!

Very cool! Corgi made some 1/50 scale diecast GMC Fishbowls a few year back. Might make a good 3d reference.

The build continues to look great. Where did you end up getting the reference material?

Are you going to add a 1/12th scale Sandra Bullock figure?

    Many thanks again guys

Yes, the plan is to make (or buy) a 1/12 scale figure of Sandy Bullock, and Keanu Reeves off course.
I’ve counted 19 passengers (so far) that are on the bus in the movie, I also found a passenger on the bus that is not part of the story, probably a sound guy or something (only saw his head for a few seconds)

As reference I use only pictures from the net and the screen-caps provided by Defstartrooper (many thanks).
Off course, a diecast model of the bus would be great to have as reference, unfortunately I’m broke (as always), so I don’t have the budget to buy one. Btw, thanks for the pics Skidmarks Diecast

Work in progress, almost ready with the basic shape of the bus,

Sorry people for the extremely late update, I’ve been very busy lately.
But, the bus is almost ready, it’s not perfect, but good enough for what I’m planning to do with the model.

    Damn!

It's definately not the norm for what we usually see...and I always like different. Thank you for posting so many steps. Hope this inspires people to take on their own projects.
