    Jul 3, 2012 - Ghostbusters 1948 Woody Wagon #1

This model was made for a RPG of Ghostbusters that I was playing with some friends back in the 90s. My character was responsible for getting the transportation and much like Ray I found the "perfect" vehicle that only needed a "few" repairs, a 1948 woody wagon.

I took a base 48 woody model, added a screen correct light bar to it (thanks to a friend of mine that collects model police cars and knew the right brand) and scratch built all the little parts for the top to make it look similar to Ecto 1.

I think the rectangular base piece was off of a patriot missile platform model. I added the ladder on one side and hoses on the other. Painted it, dirtied it up a bit, and added the Ghostbusters logo and phone number decals.

And of course, an Exto 3 license tag for the state we were playing in.

It's really hard to see, but I even made some little proton packs and put them in the back.

Since I didn't have to stay screen accurate or anything, this was a fun little build and although the game was short lived, the model has been an entertaining discussion piece for quite some time.

    Nice! What scale is that?

The weathering paintjob is very good but it may need some rust.

Cool custom. I'd love to get a better look at the packs in the back.

Thanks Everyone. It was a fun little project. I'm not sure I would ever redo that model but I could see redoing a concept like it again maybe with a larger scale. This one was only 1/25th scale. I could see doing a larger one with more detail, better paint job, actual decent decals, things like that.

I love this model! I used to have a similar model, Mine lived in the garden for a few years before I decided to blow it up

Given their budget (or lack of) when they were starting out, I could easily see Pete, Ray, and Egon using a classic Woody for their transportation. I love it--a great concept nicely executed! Well done!

You know, now that I think of it, I never did make Ecto 1 ever. I just went right to this version. I think I may even have a polar lights version of the model around somewhere.

Though doing something in a similar style (off type vehicle but cool looking in the end) but with a larger scale and years of experience on model making for a better result.

Hm, I wonder what scale Exto 1 even comes in if at all anymore?

    Off to hunt.

With regards to model kits, Round 2 reissued the 1/25 scale AMT Ecto-1A kit in May, so that's readily available for now. The Polar Lights Ecto 1 kit is "1/24ish" scale, but hasn't been issued for several years and might be difficult to obtain for a reasonable price if you don't have it.

I'm picturing a younger, surfing team of Ghostbusters. It's awesome.
