    Apr 10, 2012 - Easiest metal to work with? #1

    Hi guys, i want metal banding for the edge of a shield
    m wondering if anyone here can suggest a metal i can hammer to shape and drill? the best for the job in hand?

    Aluminum is probably the softest in terms of forming. Alternatively, you could heat a strip of brass which would soften it. If you were doing something requiring strength I'd go with brass over aluminum every time.

    I'd go with brass. Found some good stock for that too when I was building a wood strip canoe a long time ago. I imagine now you could look on line at a boat builder supply site.

    Copper is much softer than Aluminum, but it will be more expensive.
