Duel Truck

Thank you Mundbuster and Nazgul! I'm usually a get a little nervous when it comes to painting but I'm really looking forward to this one. I think it will be fun too.

That grill could make you the resident George Foreman.

By the way; to remove chrome including the clear coat, you can use Easy Lift Off or Isopropanol.
Removing the clear coat can be necessary because some have such a thick coat it completely obscures the detail.

Keep 'em coming.

My parents gave me one of those George Foreman grills and I still haven't used it yet.

Thank you for the tip. I just tested a small chrome piece in Isopropanol alcohol and it came out clean. :thumbsup I don't have any Easy Off oven cleaner to try it out on and if I go out and get some, my wife will then want me to clean the oven. :confused

Thank you guys. I've always wanted to have this truck as a toy growing up. Then as I got older, I've wanted a model of it. If I had attempted to build this 20 years ago, I know it wouldn't have looked good at all because I wouldn't have known what I was doing. Now, I still don't fully know what I'm doing but I'm planning things out a few steps ahead so I don't paint myself in a corner. I biggest help for me on this build is seeing all the talent that exists on the RPF. Because I'm able to see so many of you do such incredible things, it's given me the inspiration to push myself further than expected.

PLEASE NOTE: Easy Lift of is NOT an oven cleaner but a dedicated model paint remover. See this site for more info: BSA - Paint Strippers!
The folks on the car modelling site I visit swear by CSC (Castrol Super Clean).

Oven cleaner leaves a nasty white residue that is very difficult in not impossible to get rid of.

By the way, while you're at the Styrene archeology site, visit this page:
BSA and the Boxman , and look at what's at the top of the page.

Kind regards.

Thank you very much Ray! And thank you RKS for that clarification on Easy Lift. I always hear about Castrol Super Clean being used as well. And that's a great link for the box art. At first I was shocked and excited but then realized it's just box art. What a cool idea. I wish there was a real model kit for The Car. I also loved that movie as a kid.

Now it's time to work on the hood. I started with a 55 mm piece of styrene and drew lines where the fold and cuts will be.

First I folded it, then cut the side pieces. It came out to 55 mm long, 35 mm at the front and 5 cm at the back where it meets the cab. The sides are 1 cm. I also added a thin styrene rod down the middle for the hinge of the butterfly hood.

This picture shows where I added a tiny triangle piece so the hood will be flush with the grille.

In this picture, I'm showing the screwdriver that I used to bend the styrene to form the hood. I used a hair dryer to slowly heat up the styrene while bending it around the screwdriver.

The truck is starting to look a lot better now.

BTW, I was digging around my computer and found the papercraft model of the Duel Truck and Trailer in PDF format. I don't think I can post it due to the size (it's 9 megs), but I'll try to compress it into a zip file and attach it to the post.

Here's the papercraft model I was talking about. It's in 1/50 scale (according to the file), but I think it could be adjusted to whatever scale and possibly help out in how to construct the trailer.

Thank you very much guys! Those are some great references too. That one build looks like it was in a magazine article. Very useful :thumbsup Thank you. I tried that zip file link, CB2001 but it didn't work on my computer. I did a search and found it though. I had no idea there was a paper model of the truck. I wouldn't mind building it and see if it gives me ideas.

Thanks again guys!

I'm sorry that the link didn't work. I greatly apologize about it. Glad you were able to find it though (I myself couldn't remember where I picked it up from online). Hope that it's helpful to you. :)
