Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
I am putting together a high end model kit of the famous car, GEN11 from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and am looking to see how high the interest is. I have full access of the original car from the original owners for measurements and reference so it will be very accurate. It will be reversed engineered from Rhino for rapid prototyping the parts of the kit. It will also have add-on parts for the wings and the floatation. I'm very excited to do this so I am eager to hear back from anyone.

Welcome to the board--you have an enviable resume! I have the old Aurora kit, the Corgi and the newer 1:18 model as well so I would definitely welcome a high end kit

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
I would probably be building it around 1:16, a little bigger than the 1:18 scale toy, which is out of scale anyway for such a large replica. I will be selling it on the chittygen11.com site, built and in kit form. It will be dependent on the cost of production with metallized parts and cloth wings and maybe actual wood and brass parts.

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
I would love to make a bigger version of it but would like to keep it at a scale that people can display easily, especially with the wings or the pontoon. But I will keep all informed as it progresses. Keep an eye on the chittygen11 site!

Yes yes yes, a thousand times yes!
Got to second the others, something like 1/12 would be ideal IMHO. Will you offer the kit with options? I'd just want the basic car. Actually, I'd want even less - chassis, hood and running gear - my ideal would be the racer!

Funny you should mention that, I've actually been working on modifying an old Aurora kit into the racer version. Nowhere near done but I wanted one to sit next to "Chitty". Dave |

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
This is a good start to see so many interested. After the initial car, we could do the racer version as well. We are getting the details worked on now including measurements, scale so it shouldn't be long.

Hey, that would be nice!
Interested to know which car you have access to. Is it the Alcoa one? I got to sit in that one once, as a kid. |

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
I know the owners who bought the car after the filming of the movie. Pierre Picton has the one and only driving car and still takes care of it. It looks like new. I have ridden in it many times and they are letting me make a model kit of it but I have to call it GEN11 because they own it. I also run their website.

You sure it's the "real" car? That website seems kind of vague.

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
LOL, yeah. Couldn't it be a replica? Are you sure?
![]() Darkgrafix, have you taken any measurements as yet? Any drawings? Proto parts? We would LOVE to see anything you come up with, do you intend to post that kind of progress? I think it will help boost interest and sales. If you manage to come up with any reference for the racer then please let us know! Last I heard, nobody knew the fate of the film racers. Very sad if they were junked. I'm rebuilding a '24 American LaFrance in a similar style, there's a few of us in the ALF speedster community who are pretty obsessed with the movie Chitty racer, as well as the real ones. Here's some screenshots courtesy of one of the other ALF guys: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Photos So far this is all I have for that version.

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
I will be putting up pics of the progress as soon as we get it started. I will be taking measurements of it soon. They are trying to get it out here for promotion for the DVD Blu ray release. I have a friend who will be doing the drawings in Rhino so the parts will be prototyped on the machine. This was the only hero driving car made for the film and Pierre has been taking care of it through the filming and after. I've ridden in it many times and it's such a treat. As soon as we feel the interest is high enough, we will get started. Hopefully within the next couple months.

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
I'd be up for one!
My ideal size would be something that would just fit in a 18" square with the wings extended (including that cow catcher in the front) just my two toot sweets |

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
I just read on Pierre Picton's website (see link below) that he's selling his original hero Chitty car and it's flying to the USA in December 2010 for auction by Profiles in History. Chitty was featured on SyFy (I hate that new spelling) Channel's "Hollywood Treasure" show this week.

Re: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang resin kit interest
Definitely. Pending scale and price of course. 1/12 would be a real eye catcher.
