Apr 13, 2011 - Best off the shelf falcon model #1

    HELP,
I want to build a Millennium Falcon, but don't have time or patients for a scratch build, who makes the best off the shelf Model??
Do I go for a "Fine Molds" 1/72 or a MPC ROTJ, or MPC ESB??
Or is there a better one or Does someone offer a Kit here, I would really like something larger than 17,18 inches, but beggers can't be choosers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    AL /Blastmaster

Finemolds is a great one stop kit.
MPC falcon is ok, but can be made really nice with the resin conversion kits that are available.

Don't expect decent jawbox dimensions or correct mandible alignment from Finemolds, though. MPC does a far better job with these features.

Honestly? I'd go with the MPC and the mod kits....the shape is just...better, (once you've corrected the sidewalls!)

It'd probably work out cheaper too.

I think the fine molds 1/144 falcon is one of the best treats there is.

the 1/72 is awesome, but there's a ton of pieces and the overall shape of the 1/144 looks a tad better

If budget is an issue go with the Fine Molds 1/144 Falcon. Very detailed but small part count and it looks pretty good put together.

A couple AM products for it already and I know I have a couple coming out this summer/fall-ish.

For a crowd stopper the 1/72 Falcon is stunning, but very spendy. LOTS of tiny parts, details, and all sorts of goodies. Also several AM products. I've got a properly scaled radar dish and a cockpit lighting insert for use with my photoetch detail sets.

If it is an off the shelf model, your only real choice is FineMolds. I built one and even with the relatively minor issues that still bother some modelers (jawbox, lack of toed in mandibles etc...), in my mind, nothing else comes close. You could of course modify and accurize an MPC kit, but even with the resin goodies, some of the work approaches the tedium of scratchbuilding for the parts modifications that can be required. As such, you may lose interest quickly.
