    Oct 4, 2009 - Best Moulding Rubber? #1

    Hi guys,

I am currently looking at making a 2-part rubber mould, but all the shops I look in seem to charge a small fortune for the stuff.

Can anyone suggest a place in the UK, where I can get a silicone or similar rubber from, without breaking the bank?

I will need a fair amount, as I am moulding a nightstick. Also can tou suggest any lightweight material to cast in?

    Regards

    Solaj

You're sort of asking the wrong question though. You should maybe ask where you can find a CHEAP rubber! Cheap won't be 'best' - pretty much all silicones are expensive. Do you want to make a lot of copies or only one? If not many then there are some cheaper silicones available, but I can't recall which brands make them. They are softer and have a shorter mould life. If you can live with some imperfections, you could even use latex. It's much messier and trickier and less convenient, but can be done and is cheap as chips.

I like TOMPS or east coast fibreglass (they do RTV and casting resins too AND they are just up the road from me) - think TOMPS is slightly cheaper price for price though.

    Hi there,

if I were you I would try Mouldlife, they do a very good silicone called Tinsil 70-25. I use it at work all the time, it's a real work horse and not a bad price either.
