Bandai SW kits appear to be out in Japan!

I do like decals better than stickers, although I'd prefer to paint most of the major squadron markings anyway and just use the decals for the small detail stuff

Some of Bandai's stuff looks kind of toy-ish until it gets a good paint job, I've seen Gundams that look like they're stepping out of a live action movie. They're models have improved tons over the early 90s ones and they love detail. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually do "Grades" like they do with their Mecha kits where the grades are bigger verisions with more details (in mechas you have Real grades which come with actual interior skeletons and parts to put the armor on).

As much as I'm enjoying the Hasbro big Falcon, if Bandai did a 1/72 MF based on the original 5-footer, getting the proportions (especially the fatter hull curvature!) right for the first time EVER, I'd happily plunk down money the wife doesn't know about to get one. While I'm dreaming, they could have interchangeable bottom hull sections to build either the ANH 3-gear version or the TESB 5-gear version. I can dream....

...On the close up pictures, some of the panel lines look slightly large, but they're also highlighted in pretty dark paint. A subtle wash should keep them better in scale.
I was thinking the same thing, until I saw the photos in this link:

I think the scribed panel lines are too obvious (at least on the X-Wing) and that is what is making the kit look toy-like. However, as has been implied previously, a coat or three of primer might minimize that.

Whoa!! That X looks beautiful....the assembly is so Gundam-like. I wonder when somebody will do a side-by side comparison of the Bandai vs the Finemolds kits? I want to do a few more X-Wings but I already have 2 FM kits done........if the differences between the two were only subtle, then I could just get the Bandai kits to do the rest

The TIE looks great, but the more that I look at the X-wing the less I like it. It seems like panel lines are exaggerated and the panel warts have rounded edges like they've been sanded too much. Some of the warts don't appear to be the right size. The engine nozzles appear to be a little to long. Overall it feels cartoonish to me. There are some things that are obviously done correctly, mostly proportional stuff like the size and shape of the wings to fuselage. Still not sure about this.

Keep in mind the product images that are fully built are a 3D prototype and may not be fully representative of the final model. I'll have the model on hand in about a week, and I can do an open box review unless someone else gets theirs first and does one.

A member on SSM in Japan, just got the X-Wing kit. He will post a vid soon. At first glance he seems to like it.

Nice. Do you have any other x-wing kits around to compare it to?

Interesting that the colored and clear parts are in special sections of the same tree, but attached on as if they were manufactured separately. Would seem to support the idea that they're printed, because injection molding just doesn't work that way.
