Aztec/Mayan Inspired Wall Relief Designs

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. Yeah that JP logo is huge (24" tall). It would weigh a ton. lol.

I've also forgotten to update this thread with pics of the final products, so here they are...

Here's the "Tongue" design...

this is truly fantastic stuff! can you tell us a little about how you went about painting the designs? you've got that weathered look nailed perfectly!

also, i never knew styrofoam could be used so well.... :thumbsup

Thanks guys! The painting is just simple layering of colors, from dark, on to dry brushing lighter colors to bring out the surface. Then I add some green to some areas to make them look mossy.

Fifteen dozen uses you say? Hmm... list them over at my for-sale thread and maybe they'll actually sell. lol.

Now here's something I haven't worked on in a while. It's another addition to my fictional "City of the Twin Serpents" series of Mayan-inspired artifacts. This is the final master sculpt for this little item with just a few minor surface detailing to add. It features four different faces seemingly carved out of stone. I'm hoping to cast this piece before the end of the year.

(Early concept sketch.)

This first photo shows it with a battery-operated tea light for test fitting.

I love your designs! Quick question, do you seal your plastalina clay with anything before you make a mold? Oh, and what do you use to make the molds? They look great, I was thinking of making something similar for my lizard's tank.

Thanks! The clay was sprayed with a simple mold release spray so it's much easier to demold. Otherwise I'll be picking pieces of clay off of little crevices (boring and not fun). The mold was silicone (OOMOO 30 from Smooth-On).

Thanks, awesome stuff. Do you seal it with anything before priming/painting?
The castings out of the mold, yes. These are cast in gypsum cement so I seal them with an acrylic aerosol sealer before adding the primer. This makes the surface much less porous and adds better durability to the surface before and after painting.
