I really like the contrast between the flat hull plating and the intricately detailed sides. And your technique with the stacked and sawed plastic/acrylic is genius - it seems so obvious, but I can't recall seeing anything like it before.
What were these little guys, if I might ask?
Thanks for looking and your good attention to my build my friend!
Usually, I've had a hard time doing detailing, but this time is very fun and
got a good progress so far.
They are the turrets and funnel of 1/700 Japanese WWII battleship kit parts. I thought, if I continue to use that scored plates all over, its' gonna be too busy and monotonously. So I just put those obvious kit parts for an accent.
Few more detailing and this section will be finished.
All the best,
katsu
Oh, This is so nice.
"Noob question's";
How you get by those plastic(?)/foam boards?
How you got all the extra "bits", Are they from model kits?, Or are they chopped up toys?
Where do you store all them ships/props?
Will you Paint it in a bold color scheme? Or the usual corporate gray?
Hi ! thank you very much for looking at my build and thanks for the question.
"How you get by those plastic(?)/foam boards? "
I usually buy them from plastic/acrylic supplier over internet.
About $60 for 1m x 2m big and 2mm thick.
I usually use the thickness of 0.3mm,0.5mm,1.0mm,1.5mm and 2.0mm.
I don't buy them at any model shop because they are smaller and rather expensive. You can easily cut the 2.0mm plastic with a small knife.
"How you got all the extra "bits", Are they from model kits?, Or are they chopped up toys?"
Most of the "bits" are from the model kits. I usually use battle ship parts, tank parts and racing car parts, etc. Those kits are very expansive these days so I often get them over inter net auction. It doesn't matter if it's a junked kit or something. Also, some I.C. parts are very useful.
"Where do you store all them ships/props?"
I have a shelf in my bed room.
"Will you Paint it in a bold color scheme? Or the usual corporate gray? "
I have some ideas for the paint scheme but so far I haven't fixed it yet.
How about the brownish color like the temple of Maya ?

Don't ask old otaku. They'll tell you far more than you asked.![]()
Katsu,
I can't believe how quickly you building this masterpiece !
Will the side trenches have backlighting going through the clear plates ? The lighting effect at the moment is very nicely subdued.
Looking forward to watching how it all goes.
Cheers.
Dave
A few progress.
Scribing some basic panel lines and add some layer for the port side detail.
At the first place, I drew panel lines like Aztec patterns but id didn't make sense. See the right side of the 1st pic.
So I did rather simple way.
I made a little ruler for scribing line in every 2mm apart.

OK, and I started to add more layer to the port side.
One more layer, one more layer.......
I gained several inch long.
This is the first time I did detailing without feeling frustration. It was fun.
Thanks for looking, gentlemen.
Very nice, A great build thisd is what I call Champain modelling
A little progress of yesterday.
I started to think about the bridge. Looks like I need some more idea.
Thanks for looking.
Looking great katsu. Definetly some battle ship parts will look great for a bridge.
damn that looks awesome. looks like a old republic cruiser.
