I keep getting scared of starting the bridge, the parts are a little delicate!!
I'll probably end up sanding them flat and just using them as a frame to support whatever detail I decide to put on.

Thanks Scratchy that's a really good idea I'll use anything really and the cheaper the better! LOL

I've chipped and chisselled a mass of plastic out of the inside of the hull to accomodate the bay (boy does this thing look ugly from the inside!!)
I feel Like I'm about done with the bay walls now but as Scratchy points out: the more the merrier when it comes to ISDs!
Also I need to plan out my lighting and get it painted before installing the bay so at that point I'll be able to tell what more is needed.

If you look at the pic below that shows the incomplete ceiling in place, you'll notice lots of shiny messy spots where I've over-glued

Will a good primer mask this or will I need to scrape it off before painting?
(Please tell me the primer will do the trick!)

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

Progress is slowing a little with the need for Christmas preparations!

All I managed this weekend was a bit of reworking and some new details for the main bay ceiling.

Now it's time to press on with getting all the side trenches built, something I'd been putting off because the first couple of sections took so long (backwards logic I know!)

The bay detailing has spurred me on and given me some fresh ideas on how I'll put them together.

The only thing I wound up keeping from the original bridge was that "battleship gun turret" part in the middle on the front face.

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

Wow!!

That's looking pretty cool Blakeh.

I see you're going for an accurate look, something I don't think I'll be able to manage at this scale.

The orbs are looking good, they're rubbish as provided but your' plating improves them a lot. I've seen a couple of people scratching these (most notably Scratchy) but at larger scales. I've no idea how I'll tackle them when the time comes!

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

I just cut out a whole lot of little triangles that I sized to match the dimensions of the raised line triangles on the existing orb. I really could have used a ChopIt to help get a more uniform size, but at the time I did not know about that very handy tool so I had to use a razorblade to cut the angles from strips of styrene. I didn't go for 100% accuracy (it would be impossible for me at this scale) I just took the main bridge features and simplified then to mimic the overall look

I'm going to try to copy what you did with the hangar bay since that turned out superbly

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

Thanks Blakeh. Yeah, I'm quite pleased with how it's turning out.

I actually pulled my finger out and got a bit of a start on the rest of the side trenches last night.

For some reason I decided to do them in small sections of 50-120mm.... I can't remember why now and it seems like making more work for myself so I've started the new sections in two long strips divided by the little hangar openings I made.

I've got a feeling that I'll want to scrap the old ones and just do fresh for both sides now though.

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

Happy new year everyone, hope you've all enjoyed any holidays you've had.

My time was not as productive as I'd hoped for two reasons:

1- I had a lot of visiting and socialising to do.
2- There were some major modelling distractions. (see images)

The airbrush kits are gonna mean I can do some of the work that was waiting for primer to go on first etc.

The Galactica kit means I'm twice as busy as I was before Christmas.

Been having trouble uploading pics from my phone over the last couple of weeks but I've made some progress with side trenches etc so I'll try getting some images up in the next 24 hours.

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

OK, so by "24 hours" I meant more like 96! LOL

Only a few pics because some of the trench work I did got scrapped due to some fit issues.

Pretty much there on the port side but I'm getting nervous about how I'm going to finalise.
I need to fix the parts/ paint/ insert FOs and layer on some more details (later, as they require the trenches to be in place).
I'm just not 100% on the best order to approach it in, so while I've been scratching my head I decided to get some of the more boring jobs done with (things like sanding the top hull and super-structure smooth).

Anyhow, here's a handfull of what I've done and decided to keep:

Re: AMT Star Destroyer

Thanks buddy.

I've demolished all the sanding and time filling duties, so it's time to buy primer and bite the bullet!
I need a couple of days to get over some dental work but I plan to launch myself into it this weekend. I think that'll be a major hurdle crossed and hopefully speed things up!

I've also been experimenting with ways of lining the ship interior with shiny aluminium foil with varying degrees of success. Thi.k i'll use the downtime to properly brush up on my electronics and lay out a circuit diagram.
