Abrams Enterpise Kits?
Without cracking open a can of vitriol, I'd like to ask if there are any clues as to if and when a kit of the '09 Enterprise will be released. I know that Quantum Mechanix were doing something...but I haven't heard any updates, and a google search didn't seem to be fruitful. If that isn't the case, has anyone scratchbuilt one? I'm thinking about tackling this as a possible project in the near future if there are no forthcoming kits, and I'd love to see how someone else made out.

Aaaaand vitriol in 3...2...1...
(Not from me, but I think it's going to be inevitable.) I think the complete lack of product signifies something. It's been a couple of years. I loved the movie, but yeah, even then I hated the engine room sets and hated that sodding mutant ship. I suspect the kit firms saw the writing on the wall... |

I would love to see one of these ships in a 350 scale but I think that I am asking too much!!

Thanks for the info TK-1085...It's too bad, because I actually don't mind the ship. I actually prefer the design over the Next Gen Enterprise, even though I'm a fan of the show. Despite all the frothing at the mouth from a lot of people online, I bet that there is a market for this design. |

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
The ships from Playmates sat on the store shelves for months and were placed on clearance. I see them going on ebay for 10 to 12 bucks now.

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
It depends on where you are, I guess. The Enterprise toy was the only thing that sold here in NS...everything else was put on clearance for crazy prices, but the ship itself seemed to move (I was waiting for the clearance on it buit it never happened). I recently saw the action figures at the Dollarama...ouch!

If you are interest in any of the other ships, Starcraft Models makes very detailed 1/1400 scale models.

The closest you're going to get the the Abrams Apple Enterprise with the iBridge featuring lens flares is a paper model I came across a while ago or the Playmates toy.

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
The reasons Round 2 dropped the JJ Prise will likely never be fully revealed, but it sounds like there was a bit of bad blood between the guy at Paramount who was in charge of the licenses for the JJ Trek movie (not the same person in charge of other Trek licensing) and R2 when some R2 reps tried to go through the back door to get some data on the ship that they were unable to get through the front door channels. Apparently the original mesh was unuseable for conversion to CAD for some reason (although later after many delays the tooler finally said that yes they COULD use it. Gee, nice of them to tell R2 AFTER all the delays).
The Playmates ship is decent (I have one as well) although it is a bit squashed in its length relative to its height. The little Hot Wheels diecast is better proportionally. I have a feeling we will eventually see a new Trek Enterprise, just not from R2. Since Revell of Germany has a license for Trek in Europe, perhaps they will take on the task themselves when the new movie comes out next year? We shall see how good thier first Trek efforts are though as the TOS Enterprise and Klingon are scheduled for release in September. We won't be able to get them from vendors in the states, but the internet can always help as there are plenty of European vendors we can get them from (and the same would be true for a JJ Prise if it was European market only). |

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
How big is the playmates ship? Length and the diameter of the saucer?
I thought about getting one since there might not be another ship in kit form! |

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
TARGET had an exclusive DVD set that came with ship package (DVDs stored inside saucer section) that was about 1/1000 scale and not too shabby for a model of the ship. That's what I ended up getting when I heard ROUND 2 dropped their version.
i picked mine up on ebay -- you might find it there or on amazon: http://vimeo.com/7456693 There is also a metal version of ship that comes with Blu-Ray edition of DVD, also foubd on ebay: STAR TREK (2009) LE BLU-RAY GIFT SET LIMITED TO 5000 Last edited by DrMcoy; 06-25-2011 at 11:19 AM. |

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
That looks like one of the QMX builds, though the engines aren't supposed to droop. Now, they are selling them for $5000 a piece. Used to be, they were pricing initially at $1200. Changed their minds, I guess.

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
WOW,
I forgot how pathetic looking that design was. Thanks for ruining one of my favorite ship designs. Maybe we will get lucky and they will blow the cwap outta it in Star Trek II. If it ever gets made that is. |

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
I noticed that too..... I'm sorry, but I wouldn't buy that ship in any form and in no way would I ever waste a minute of time scratch building one. I hope to God they change it for the next movie. I hope they return to some sembelence of canon as well. Maybe this time Kirk won't get his butt kicked three times in one movie. I'm sorry, but that's just not my Trek.

Re: Abrams Enterpise Kits?
so, underdog, i take it you did not like the new movie?
![]() i am one of the few that did and hope they keep the ship the SAME -- i find it weird how many times the design has changed...seems like it was different EVERY movie....but perhaps that's because it was BLOWN UP in almost every movie. ![]() i hope they keep design EXACTLY the same as last JJ movie...and i hope they make a model of it, as i would buy one in a heartbeat. for those that hate it, well, you guys have plenty of nice models of the version you DO like to worry over...spend your time building and admiring those and stop being such a hater on the new design. now, if they decide to make the engine room in the new movie something other than a beer factory, i won't complain...but it did not keep me from hating the first movie...but this is a discussion that has been hashed and rehashed so many times that there is nothing i can say that will move the discussion in any other possible direction, so i'll stop here. |

regardless of what they do with the ship in new movie, i hope they keep the soul of the original series intact (as i thought they did with first JJ movie) and give us a storyline that is NOT a retread of any of the existing movie storylines and AVOIDS ANY USE OF TIME TRAVEL, which i find personally very interesting but feel it has been done to death in Trek movies. |

The Kid Kirk stealing the Corvette was priceless! The bar scene was great until his got whipped. Having said all of that, the last movie was yet another retread of TWOK. Think about it.... Just like Nemesis and to a certain degree so was First Contact. You would think that after all of these years they could still come up with something original. I'd like to see them make a version of Theodore Sturgeons "The Joy Machine" or do one of the Phillip K. Dick novels, or something from Clarke (sp?).. There is so much good Sci-Fi out there and the possibilities are boundless, for the powers that be to keep remaking the same movie and doing it poorly......??? Hell, they could always go back to Shakespeare. |
