I was hoping the great gurus on the RPF could help me out with some questions I have on building the 38" SSD.
I've just finished doing some clean-up on the model and now I want to start thinking about assembling it. At first, I was going to build it without any type of lighting; now that I see how wonderful of a model it is lighted, I have to give it a shot. So far I have the model cleaned and I started to label the pieces as to where they fit on the ship. I need to start doing some dremel work to thin out the resin so I can start on the lights. I bought 700 feet of the 0.25mm fiber optics to start with and I'm sure I'll need more.
First, are there tutorials here on the RPF or maybe links to other SSD builds I could use as reference?
For the LED lighting, are there any recommendations to where I could go to learn those assembly skills? I am not new to the model building arena so I'm sure I can handle it; I've never done anything with LEDs before. I see many people use batteries to light their ships, does anyone use any type of direct plug wiring?
Also, aside from reference SSD pics, how does one decide where to put the light holes? Has anyone mapped these out before?
Finally, what paint recommendation do you have? Tamiya colors? I like the models that have the two grey colors with the outer hull being lighter and the internal structure being darker.
Thanks for your help on this one, I'm looking forward to building this! It will take me awhile since I have no LED lighting skills and I want to take my time on this one. Plus having the normal-life things such as job, family, etc., I expect this project to drag out a bit....
