    Jul 19, 2011 - 1966 Batmobile #1

I took a break from some other projects last week to build up the new R2 '66 Batmobile. Mostly OOTB, but I added a few touches. I replaced the rear antenna with stretched sprue and kit supplied base. I also replaced the three chrome rocket tubes with new ones. These were made from aluminum tubing. They look much nicer than the kit supplied part. Other than a lot of BareMetal Foil and detail painting that's pretty much it. It was afun and relaxing build. It looks great next to my '89 Batmobile.

    Enjoy the pics.

Yes, they have been out for a few weeks now. This is the snap together kit. The full detail/glue together kit is still a month or so out.

The kit actually comes with prepainted, seated figures of Batman and Robin. I chose not to use them however.

Ah, OK, that's the one I'm waiting for. The details on yours look so good I thought it was the glue kit.

Are the figures that come with it any good?
Or are they really goofy looking?

IMO they are kinda goofy looking. They look more like a cartoon version than replicas of Adam West and Burt Ward. Plus, they don't fit very well.

Her it is with my AMT '89 Batmobile.

Very nice build and I'll bet the alterations you made really added a lot to the overall look.

Nice '89 too. I have that kit as well but have yet to finish it after 5 years.

Thanks guys. The '89 I applied a wash of Tamiys Smoke to the chrome parts to get that exotic metal look. Here are some pics of it all lit up.

I'm sure you could. It would require some dissasembly of the cars but it's doeable. You know, I may go ahead and light my 1/18 '89.

    Beautiful clean builds!
Where did you use the bare metal foil? Was it on the canopy frame?

love the lighting on the '89...especially the afterburner thingy!

    Awesome...

Thanks guys! I used BMF on the window frames, dashboard and door panels. The afterbunner is a tuft pulled from a cotton ball. It keeps its shape with a little hairspray.
