1313 Mockingbird Lane: My Munsters House Model

Wow... Very nice detail guy... You did an outstanding job. I have a model train collection I recently acquired and some day id love to have it set up with a neighborhood of iconic houses such as this! Keep up the good work!

I've been researching this house for over a year and I thought I would post
some of the information I gathered on the house. This is how the house
looked 20 years before being used in The Munsters.

The house was originally designed and blueprinted for the movie "So Goes
My Love (1946 - Universal Pictures)" Then later featured in the movie "The
Brass Bottle", and a couple of episodes of "Leave it to Beaver".

After the Munsters, it was featured in "The Burbs" with Tom Hanks and
"Dragnet" with Dan Akroyd. Finally to be used in "Desperate Housewives"
in which, after a few season, was remodeled again to look less like the
Munsters house.

The house sets featured in the film were built on Stage 12, then after
filming (around April 1950) the sets were moved to the north edge of the
backlot, where they remained until they were moved to the current Colonial
Street (Wisteria Lane) in 1981.

Below are pictures of the house as it originally looked (Before being
transformed 20 years later for the Munsters.

Original soundstage build in 1946. Note there was not much to the house
in this film. Basicly the front and partial sides.

Final look of the house which remained this way for almost 20 years.

Even the original Munsters Pilot in color used this version of the house.

I'll see if I can post some of the blueprints from the 1946 build. I just
have to save them in another format.

Wow! Those pre-Munsters era pictures are excellet! Of course I had seen the house also on the Dragnet film and The Burbs. I believe it has also been on selected episodes of other tv shows from time to time in it's long history before and after Desperate Housewives other than The Munsters. I love that house and always find joy spotting it and the Psycho house in other films and tv shows.:cool

Good luck with your project and if you do indeed have a go at any scale keep us posted.:thumbsup

I love it. Never have been a fan of that scale , but this is wonderful. I would love one about twice that scale. I always wanted the Addams family railroad set from that show. If yours was a kit I would surely purchase it.

The one I am working on now is twice that size. The model above was
1:87th scale. The new one is 1:43rd. I too like the bigger scales as you
can get far more detail in them.

I had a ton of detail in the smaller one but it just doesn't show or
photograph well at that size. Once the 43rd scale one is done, I am going
12th scale. That one would be roughly 4 feet X 4 1/2 feet just for the
house.

Once I sell off my KITT replica this spring, I can use the garage for that
one. I'll need the space. LOLO.

With Mobius coming out with their plastic model of this, my employer has
decided not to produce this kit as it is shown above.

As much as I hate to do this, we are making quite a few some changes in
the basic design so we can release our version of this house. We are
shooting to have to ready for Janurary at some point. I'll keep everyone
posted on the new kit.

While it won't be 100% Munsters, it will be close in the over all look and
will still make a cool looking Haunted House type structure.
