I modeled it it autocad and meshmixer, and printed it out 7" long, which was just too small, so I decided to go bigger! I sliced it into three 220mm tall sections and printed them out on my Tinkerine Ditto+ 3D printer. I'm using filling sandable primer to smooth out the ridges. The final piece will be 26" tall, and I'll paint it shiny. These two parts took a combined total of only 13 hours!

I'm still up filling and sanding. The third part is almost done! I glued the two pieces together, and hope to finish by friday. On Saturday I'm headed to the US Science and Engineering festival in DC and want to display it there. Honestly, this guy is only about 29 hours of printing, and it's *really* BIG. I expect that in the coming years people interested in ships will certainly be doing this all the time. It's really been a rather simple project.
