Dave has a very good eye and discernible tastes. On the other hand, I think once painted and with the cross-bar, the spheres will be just fine.

That was my thinking. They look pretty obvious by themselves, but as far as I know they're the same size as Eric's. His look good, so mine should look good.

And unlike Eric's build, this won't be the last, or the smallest departure from accuracy I'll be making.

Thanks, those are great shots. I took so many close-up that I forgot to take more wider shots that show the overall structure.

It wasn't a Nikon D700 was it? My D700 just decided to stop focusing with AF lenses.

No worries mate. The Nikon was a 3 day old D90 I was seriously Couldn't believe I paid that much to make sure I was gonna get the goods & nothing, no power.... I got a replacement evening after the exhibition. You waite a life time to get up close to this stuff, travel thousands of miles & spend so much money in hope of getting some great shots to share..

Some of the new Nikon's had trouble with the power switch. My dad just sent his back for the repair. I'm certain it was a factory recall on a new model and he did not have to pay anything.

I have a Nikon D40 (8 months old) and one day I used it 8 followed hours and took more than 1000 pics (Exhibition Madrid) and nowadays it's like a first day camera

Re: Well...here we go. My ANH Star Destroyer build

IWell I live in QLD Australia & the exhibition was in Melbourne. I would have loved to have gone back because I got a replacement that afternoon after the exhibition Just couldn't fit it in... Had to fly out next day Anyway its ok I'll live & the kids had a great time. Sorry for taking up some thread Sumatra. Hows your build going? Im thinking of starting one soon. Just found a plastics supplier & looking for some Base Plans or Measurements. Chakwanwoo has done some & updated the measures so thats a great start. Thanks Chakwanwoo & Sumatra.

Re: Well...here we go. My ANH Star Destroyer build

OK, I have most of the kits I feel I really need, but there's a few parts I'm unsure of still.

First, is this a kit part, or just styrene?

Next, I need to find the blue, green and purple parts still. I just found the red one, so skip that.

I have a part from the AMT Kenworth T600A that looks really close to the orange part, but it's not exactly the same. Is this a retool, or simply a different kit?

Last (for now anyway ), this yellow part looks like a ship part, but I don't have one that's as curvy. Most I have are a bit more squared. Though this may not even be a ship part.

Thanks for the help.

Any chance you could do a kit list?

Pretty much everything I know that I can discuss publicly has been posted in the various threads. That said, there may be something in the works to gather the info together.

Re: Well...here we go. My ANH Star Destroyer build

Well, the more parts I put onto the bridge and neck the less I'm satisfied with what I've made so far. Angles and measurements were off, requiring me to make compromises. So I'm starting over. The good thing is I have the one I made already to look at when coming up with my new dimensions.

Re: Well...here we go. My ANH Star Destroyer build

Since I'm rebuilding the bridge, I'm looking for better drawer pulls. It seems that people feel they should be closer to 30mm than the 35mm ones I have. I found a couple, but the photography of them makes it hard to tell what they really look like.

Anyone have an opinion on either of these:

Amerock 731-CS

These may be the same

Liberty P30101-CHC-C

To me the top one looks the more round than the bottom one, but you really can't make out the facets.

Are there any other options I didn't find?

Thanks.

Well none of them seems to have the correct pattern. The 2 first finials are the same and the pattern looks weird the third link shows a finial with the TESB pattern so useless for you !

That was my feeling, that they should be closer to 30mm.

I have to apologize to everyone that was following my 3D investigation of the craft - as much as I intend to get back to it, I simply have not had the time over the last several months to spend any meaningful time on the project. I'm going to try to get back to it as soon as possible, but it looks like you guys re beating me to it.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm going to check it out. THanks.

I'm also thinking I may head over to a place like Restoration Hardware to see if there's anything vintage that may work.

Re: Well...here we go. My ANH Star Destroyer build

I just found this knob. At first I thought it was the same one I have been using, but now I'm not sure. This one says it's 32mm. When I measure mine it comes out to 34.4mm at the widest.

Then I saw they have one they list as being 35mm. If so, the first one might be a better match.

A little primer will cover those baseball seams right up.

Like I said before, if you can find a dome that is closer to 30mm, or 1 3/16", I think that you'll be happier with the result.

This might be too late, but be careful with the bridge neck - it's sidelines aren't parallel. When looking at the bridge from the front, the neck should taper as it goes up.

Thanks for the reminder. I forgot about that before. You can see that the ribbed Panther G part tapers.
