I guess the leftovers from the ISD and things like this all went to that Medical Frigate...
Lee, your comment interests me.
Is it like Jason is guessing (about leftovers)..
or do you see aesthetic cues? -- ie, like the chicken used lots of auto, ISD used naval.
and perhaps its less about aesthetic then it is the scale of the model compared to the scale of the detail of the donor pieces?
Guess just a couple of the Naval choices surprised me, mind you, im not up to snuff on many naval kits, but it could be a case of what bits and bobs were in builders parts bins at the time.
There are some quite delicate assemblies on this model for sure!

I wonder about personal choices of the model makers, too. Q, remember how Lorne told us over dinner that he'd get to work early, just so he could get first crack at the shrink wrapped kits before everyone else, so that he KNEW there would be multiples of the same part? It really offered a window into his personal mindset/preferences in picking the parts. All those ILMers had personal interests that I bet translated into their preferences for the kits, subject matter-wise. You had gear heads who probably liked the bike and F1 kits, and you might have had guys who preferred tanks and armor, maybe? We also know they all liked certain "staples", like the Saturn V and the Hasegawa railgun kits.
So maybe someone on Empire really liked Naval kits, or realized they needed a crap ton for the ISD and SSD builds... so when they ordered the kits in bulk, things like the Belfast fell into the pile. It also apparently depended on what the local distributor had in stock, too. Lorne talking about zipping through the place with shopping carts FULL of kits. Awesome.
I don't think I'm off base when I say that Julien, you probably know the most about the Probe Droid at the moment, because you're the one building it from scratch, and have everything fresh in your head. At least that's how it happens for me - when I'm preparing for a build (but not there yet, and building other things), I try to gather as much info as possible and write it down, so that I can BUILD when I have the allotted time free. Once I'm done with the model, things tend to leave the mind in favor of the next project.
I'm pretty sure it's that way with every one, and 30 years on, who can remember anything about an old project?
To add, making IDs, is a lot different to taking IDs, ive always felt if you find much of what your building, it stays with you, just scribbling it down, it isnt the same. Those are the ones i get foggy on, not many though, as i love to ID.

OMG where does julien come out with this stuff!!!
The bottom skirt is awesome , not to mention those legs!!!
I just follow instructions , no thanking me on those parts Jules!
I sent you a picture of the armature you wanted to see.
I need to upload them to photobucket so if you want to post here do so.
The bearing was found by glen (zombiekiller)
A while ago ad we tried a few things .
So credit should go to him,
It works great but unlike Jason's which is also a perfect design this bearing cannot go on the neck.
It's inside the head.
Will post more later , I am in Sydney for the weekend.

Thanks Neil !
Yeah Im so used to see it w/o the equator trench ! That's like when I put the neck rings, I was so used to see the head directly on the body, it looked just weird lol
Yeah that's just for the pic, going to make the spacer this week
PERFECT work on cutting the sat v parts to the dome, very nice.
For the large eye is it from the aitfix or monogram?
Ive got a couple vintage saturn V's on there way so I wont be able to check my self till there in hand but was set to use the airfix until I read lee's thread with mention that the monogram was used for the eye?
May I ask, whats the different of PD pics that shared by Raiders w all builded PD on this board?
What Ive realized the different is the leg so far,any1![]()
Thanks !
DSP, I used only Airfix Sat V even if I had some Monogram ones. Monogram Sat V were on ILM shelves byt that time, so why not but I cant tell which part come from which kit (the smaller leg joints are made from the Airfix kit, that's sure).
Talkierg, the sixth leg you can see in raider's pics is a fake one. It's not part of the PD actually but of the stand, I guess it's here to hide the mounting pipe ?
Some more pics !
[edit] Oh of course still have the dampers to make but I have to order some brass tubing for that !
Still 2 claws to build and one part to find ! I know Lee and Guy got it but I'd like to find it by myself even if I'm looking for several weeksI'm pretty sure I have it and it's from an obvious kit
Just missed it !
Thanks for watching !
[QUOTE=MonsieurTox;2518613]Thanks !

A fake 1,I see..Im still a rookie on this board
Wow,very fast progress Julien, great job on the legs,clean,superb![]()
Thanks for the info re the monogram, luckily forgot about the auction and got outbid![]()
Now thats a set of Probot legs, good dims, the right parts, and flawless work Julien, looking forward to getting started myself very soon.
Julien, you seem to have a part missing off the back of the large main legs claw too, ill shoot you the find.

The probe droid is not part of the Identities tour that Raiders did such an awesome job of getting pictures. It is on the Where Science Meets Imagination tour, recently departed from Wichita, Kansas...about a 3 hour drive from yours truely. Thank me!
Sorry, just felt like tooting my own horn. I'll have to bump my thread. If the PD had been at Identities we would have much better pics than those I took. Raiders has a better camera and skills than I.
Nice progress on the droid Julien. I like the acrylic joints. Very nice.
