Claw parts now added as close as i can see them, just missing a part, that Guy has kindly offered to help me with, cheers Guy, good find too BTW.
This claw does articulate, but due to the design, its pretty limited as it goes, but it moves nontheless, its like a really big spendy action figure now

Thanks Julien, counting on you to build one of these at some point though, im still eager to see one built from full on scratch, vac formed, correct body and head profile etc etc.

I think it wont happen !
I dont know how to do the plating wrapping around the Saturn parts of the head, it looks like they used sheet of milliput or something similar, it could be vacformed but did they vacformed over the saturn parts ? I dont know

Anyway I'm following this thread with great interest, you makes me want to build just the legs lol Keep up the good work !

Phil, sorry bud, missed your post...thank you .

Julien the plating is a bit of a confusing one......id say they may heated styrene, and pushed it in to warp into the Saturn V? Very weird this prop, even that pinch running around the head confuses me, were they found items/domes glued together, or an elaborate vacform......baffled, and sadly, so little info of the build in any publications.

I know they build two sets of legs, the proto legs are soooo different to the final model ILM used...Rolando based his kit on the first draft of legs, which are the same......but very different......if you get my drift lol.

Catching you up mate, I think I've used the same tank wheels by accident, theyre the only ones that seem to do the job after looking through all my kits.

I think they look spot on with the 16mm legs but slightly too big with the 14mm, so pros and cons to using both sizes.

Very different to the cast kit leg

    Lee and Guy,

You guys are totally nuts - you know I mean that in the nicest possible way of course.

This is just another level when it comes to the Probe Droid.

Keep up the good work lads

    Cheers Chris

Chris, thanks man, hope your well over the border. I wish this could be a full on, INSANE scratchbuild, but theres no way id go that far, using the NiceN as a base, is infuriating enough ....great fun though, havent "enjoyed" a build like this in quite some time.

James, thanks man, well, you never know huh lol.

This is an epic thread. Having built two of the kits, and having spoken to Ro about the master having never been intended to be a master pattern, I can say that without a doubt, the work shown here brings to life almost everything I visualized in my head as I built the resin versions.

You may be frustrated from time to time, Lee - but yeah, the end result and the joy along the way must be such a rush!!!

Jason it is a rush, seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, is worth so much TBH.
These are not kits for the faint of heart, least of all, somebody who doesnt like to wear rose tinted specs lol.

As i said bud, its so fun being able to play action figure style with this big thing, i primed up the second leg today, and, now i find out, im around 2mm out on some of the ABS tubing.....but, it just doesnt matter to me, im a very happy camper, as its been a while since i really got down and dirty with some grunt work .

I really hope Dave gets rolling on his new kit release, be so good to see you and some of the other guys doing this.

    I am dying to, man!

I have the Slave 1 bucks to get vacformed first... you know, after I finish the Blade Runner blimp! LOL!!!!

I need to quit my real job

Got some more work done today, I'm in 2 minds wether to wait & get the 12.7mm tube for the next section of the leg or just dive in and use 14mm. Its bugging me but I think Iowe it to my other half to calm down a bit on Leg making.

Like Lee said these are so rewarding to build its beyond fun...I've ballsed a few bits up but dont care now as long as they hold together. I wouldn't want to drop one of these as al the knuckle joint are just glued, I think pinning them would be or the brave and more talented of you folks.........wasn't someone getting Married today....must have missed it!

    A fare bit of movement

Looking good Guy, im glad its working out for you, much more satisfying designing this to work in house.
I see you salvaged the Esci part buddy, good save, cant wait for mine to arrive now.
May kick off two smaller legs tomorrow, see what time i get, as i need to start the damper pivot hinges to mold and cast. Keep it coming Mr C.

Been thinking bout those hinges a lot lately, what a fiddle this is going to be. I think all the hard work will seem easy when it come to making and adding the Damper rods.

Only a smal; section snapped off & I tried my best to put it back on, no luck. I've only just tacked it on incase I decide to get a clean one before I paint it.

Thought id make a couple of hinge masters in styrene, throw them in a gang mold of other parts i need to run, and try that buddy.
I cant face making them ALL in styrene lol, but shouldnt be too hard at all to make function.

Guy, it's lyrics... my Mancunian knowledge is limited to the Smiths and Stone Roses, I'm afraid!!

YouTube - The Smiths - Miserable Lie (Peel Session)

(around the 1:45 mark if the song is awful to yer ears)

    Just me being a nerd!

(It was either that or referencing the song that references the Moors murders, which is a bummer)
