Studio Scale Landspeeder project

Sometimes all you need is luck, and suddenly a collaboration happens that allows a LONG back-burner-bound project to come to the front. This is going to be studio scale, but based off a direct study of the 1:1 filming prop. So I am truly sorry to the rivet and bolt counters, but this will be an über-detailed project with a touch of the 1:1, befitting the iconic design. It'll display better that way, and I guess you could omit details and "accurize" it to the true Studio Scale prop if you wanted to. All I can say is that I'm making what I want to have on my shelf, lol!

I still feel the sting of the failed kit that was offered ages ago that turned into a long-term loan, interest free. But enough of that. I'm sure this will hit the Junkyard when it's ready for that - until then, here'll be my documentation of the master pattern that will be created by myself, from the massively awesome 3D work being done in a secret lab, far below the Earth's crust. Or not.

I sent the Cad data less than 24 hours ago and here's where we are now. Amazing!

Main form will be milled out of foam. I'll skin it. We'll progress from there. I even have excellent reference on Luke's ANH rifle so I'm thinking that would be a cool thing to throw on the seat.

Yes indeed!

So we're going to engineer this to be presented in halves - think "giant styrene model kit", and make internal ribbing for a standard gauge pipe for an armature. Cross bar in the back made from aluminum stock (like the Red Y-Wing kit had). It will be straight, true, level, and stable this way!

I was tempted.... I think I might try to rig up a socket that allows for a spring inside the mount point, so the whole model is a "bobble head" of sorts... allow for that rocking back and forth/up and down the 1:1 had on the gimbal... so if you nudge it, it "wiggles".

If you get this finished before Sideshow... and there's a kit offered. I'd be interested in one (it'll save me the time of scratching my own)!

Good luck.

I am getting a rough quote from one of the shops I love to use, who can mill the main body in two halves (upper and lower), which I will skin/prepare for molding. That way we can have the whole thing done in resin, hollow, with the parts being easily joined/finished. Hopefully in a month or two, I'll have parts on my bench that I can work on!!

I think this will work well, parts wise. I am excited too! Lucky for me, the ribs on the side fit in my laser cutter bed, so I plan to cut those from thin acrylic. RAZOR sharp details where it counts, man... that's what I'm aiming for!

Also really looking forward to gashing the everliving hell out of the front and back engine mount, where the 'speeder was banged up. Luke must be a crap driver!

So epically, totally, utterly IN!!! :)

PLEASE include Luke's jezail. That would be total gravy.
