Studio Scale Bird of Prey build

Hi
I have just started a build of the Studio Scale Bird of Prey by Nice-N Models for the collection of Kurt Kuhn. I'll post progress here as I go.
First off the kit is wonderfully engineered and very clean, minimal flash. No instructions included so I'm going off of prop reference and Steve's photos of his build to guide me. Looking at the prop reference everything starts to come together.
There are some interior bulkhead and support parts that took a bit to figure out. Mainly I don't want to close anything up and later find there was a part that went in there.
Starting off this will be displayed on a 1" diameter post on a tripod speaker stand. Here are photos of the kit parts.

There are more photos at the Modeler's, Miniatures, and Magic website.

There is an awesome metal armature included. I mounted a plastic pipe in the metal armature to receive the post. I put a stop in the pipe so I can run wires through the stand. The parts in the photos are snapped on the armature or just set in place. Nothing is glued yet so some things may look crooked.

Started basic assembly of the bridge section. Only had to make one cut out in the disc shaped part to allow for fit on the neck.

I started the wing assembly. There is a heavy weight aluminum armature for each wing. That armature gets sandwiched between two resin skins. There are two aluminum hinge blocks for each wing. The holes need to be drilled to receive what every mounting you want to use. I drilled and tapped the wings to receive bolts through the hinge. I probably should have used a smaller bolt, because I had to make a large counter sink to hide the heads. The lower skin was marked where the bolts go so I just drilled those and used it for a guide on the metal parts. I epoxied the lower skin first then made sure I fit all the bolts and hinge parts properly before attaching the top skin. The bolts cannot protrude through the top side or they would get in the way of the top skin.

That's an amazing kit! Very clean looking and one of my favorite subjects.

Looks like it goes together without a lot of drama either. I can't wait to see more!
