    Jul 1, 2012 - Studio Scale Battlestar Atlantia 2009 #1

Series of some photos showing the build of Atlantia by myself and the rest of the guys at C.R. in 2008-2009. The Atlantia build project was a big learning experience, as at that time, many parts used on the ship were still unknown. I did alot of research trying to find parts.
We decided to paint the Atlantia with some dark undercoats, and give her a real mean and battle worn look. We knew when we created the Galactica, we were gonna go with a more traditional paint look, and wanted them to really stand apart. In some of the photos you can see both ships together.

Wow, those are incredible! I love how the weathered look on the Atlantia came out.

That shot of the two models together reminds me of the first episode of the show.

Wow Jason, thanks for posting some pics we haven't seen before old buddy. It's always a treat to see more WIP pics from the CR shop.

BTW, I'm still gluing on your resin parts. Only about 900-1000 to go at my last estimate Maybe I'd better post a build thread of my own?

More Battlestar Atlantia Photos. In these photos you can see one of the unique features. In the original Apogee BSG, the landing bay caps had pencil lines scribed all over the caps to add detail. While trying to reproduce those pencil lines, it became apparent, that they must have been scribed by different people from port/starboard, as the style is so different. I was torn between replicating some of the loose/crooked lines, or making them all consistent. I decided to make them look as good as i could, but reproduce the crooked style in the front shots. To my knowledge, as far as BSG builds, i'm the only person who has attempted to add these hard to notice details!

I LOVE IT!!! How much would one of these things cost to build? Truly amazing work.

That is a tough question to answer directly, In the case of Atlantia, many factors were involved to drive up the cost from bad planning to other
Shenanigians i won't elaborate on here. All the kit parts, and other facts to build an accurate ship, weren't even figure out by Modelers till 2009-2010! And still to this day, there are a few parts which still elude builders.

Atlantia was originally going to be part of a 3 ship build, Atlantia, Pegasus, and Galactica for a private collection. In the end, we only built Atlantia and Galactica as they are indeed time consuming and expensive to make. We strove to meet deadlines, and used all our resources we could to build the best ships, built to last, in a timely manner for our client.

Building a studio scale Galactica is a huge undertaking, and takes months in our case, and years in many others. Cost is always determined with that in mind, as 1 person working on his ship may take a long time, but saves money in the long run. Either way you slice it, it's like buying a expensive car!
