Re: star destroyer blueprint question

A topic close to my heart!!

I've spent many fruitless hours searching for an accurate bluepront, they simply don't exist. You can find some half decent graphics on the web but they all seem to have one problem area.

I've been using the elevations from "star wars the essential guide to vehicles and vessels" enlarged to about A2 size. They're not bad but i've cross referenced with lots of other sources because as you enlarge the pic, it can get a little fuzzy and measurements become aproximate.

If you have the budget, "star wars the blueprints" may have something better but my pocket never stretched that far

What scale are you going to build? I may have some useful dimensions you can use.

Re: star destroyer blueprint question

Do some hpmework fellas. I can only suggest find the Stat Destroyer threads. Go through them. Which ever one you feel you wish to build. Collect as much photo reference of the model you can. Learn to identify kit parts. Buy lots of donor kits. Enlarge photos to scale of kit parts. Draw paterns. Start building slowly. Ask for help as you go. People will help you if you make the effort. Start with your research. I kmow ive tried share all i could about working through my projects & so have many before me. It wont be easy & it wont be cheap. I strongly suggest lurning to mold & cast aswell. Good luck.

Re: star destroyer blueprint question

I have to agree with Omes72, there are no accurate plans available. You're better off finding some reference images on the net (side profile, top/bottom profile, elevations, etc.) and make your own plans. Using software like Photoshop, to clean up the images and convert them to templates and saving as an .eps file, and Illustrator import the .eps file and use the templates to draw from.

I used the Star Wars: Essential guide to vehicles and vessels,... and I can tell you, the outline drawing of the Star Destroyer is just plain wrong when compared to the studio model.

Re: star destroyer blueprint question

I agree with Scratchy on the guide to essential vehicles. Those small blueprints showing front. back and side are generic. I looked at that book also when i was working on my snowspeeder, and it was way off! You might want to go with what omes72 said, finding good images of the sd from all angels and simply blowing up the image. I wish I had done this before I began working on my sd. I used the ertl model and just scaled up. The dimensions came out ok but not perfect. However, its a start. Another option if you wish to build the devastator, the guy you want to talk to is Rick. (ringa)He knows this model bow to stern! Its scary! He knows so much about this ship that i swear he is Lorne Peterson in disguise! He's built 3 of them!
