Looking good there Mike and I like the photo, I always looked at this day as somber one not to be partying like the fools across the street with the loud spanish music which I hate and I'm spanish Lol, they probably never served in the military all my brothers and I all 4 of us were Army, my older brother has 20-25 already going for the 30 to retire.

Your most welcome and your right....thats what
the day is really all about!

I am not going to use the plastic for the wing......
i will use some plywood and laminate it

Well I had to do some cutting of the sides that went pretty
well.....then I cut out the opening in the cockpit and installed
the canopy and sharpened it up.

then I got the panel lines drawn on and scribed.....

Next time to make the flat sides that I had cut away earlier.....

Switching to the wing .......i decided to do it all in wood and laminate
in 1 mm styrene! I ran a rabbit joint across so i could route the wires
from the engine cans....and later laminate with the styrene.

I still have to make the bottom of the cockpit.....it has a very small
sides compared to the top section.....i can use the second pull of
the hull I made to get the bottom section.

Mike maybe its my eye, but shouldn't the side kind of get wider towards the end and narrower towards the front ?in the pic it looks parallel from front to back.

I believe that´s just the Red jammer head. The sides of the head of the gold Ys have an almost constant height.

Then again, I don´t think Mike is going for "studio accurate", the canopy should be wider and more flat, and the lower head should be made from a new master as it doesn´t have the same curvature as the top.

Mike, I hope you just keep building it, looks awesome so far. You make that vacuforming look so easy...

Studio accurate......Nah I havent looked at the studio model
    since I started making it.

Is there that much difference between the top and bottom of the cockpit in regards to curvature?Obviously the bottom has no sides like the top hull does that drop down......but the shape overall doesn't look that drastic......I don't know i didn't study it that hard. I know if i was making this thing for the first time I would use the top hull shape for the bottom and just trim it down.......that's how I am making mine, I don't plan on using another entire pull just like the top and gluing it to the bottom.

Ok I made some changes on the angle here .......

And another change to the lower hull ......where
i totally missed the angle that slants upwards.

    All together now......

The lower hull's neck will actually be 2 ply thick......
I will have to sculpt in some clay coming off the angled
    part to match it up.

I wanted the neck to be incorporated into
    the main hull on top....

This is where you can see the neck (LEFT) with only 1 ply for
the lower hull I will epoxy another piece of wood and
it will be the correct thickness around 12mm or so.

Working on the cockpit attempt #3.....

Well the plan is to have the flat sides incorporated into
the fuselage......and make the bulkhead in the back high
enough that both neck parts will fit.......that always helps!

I decided to make the part over sized so I can just cut
every thing back after it's formed, that's why the front
    is flat.

Checking the new thicker neck parts against the bulkhead
    it works now!

    Clay roughed in.....

    Sanded and close......

    Thanks Troop

Ok that keel line always gives a problem
so we are going to chisel that right out of
there, now it's below the clay and I can fill it back
in. It's easier to sand similar surfaces rather than
dissimilar, the clay is much harder than the styrene
and it shows in the final pull.

    Done!

I went ahead and pinned the neck to the lower hull as well
    the hulls' are finished now......

I don´t know, the cockpit pod looks strange. The "rear crosssection" or profile should have a curvature, and not be trapezoidal as you cut out the black styrene. Or are you still going to build it up from there with more clay?

I was thinking when I cut it out (and the front)I could just kind of
tweak the curve in by hand as it would be freed up,
and then cut a bulkhead to fit?

I was looking at the the pattern for the fuselage and I def want to
make some changes down at the nose, it needs more curvature for sure.....
maybe I can work on the back as well......

Great work. I see what you mean about the curve, but getting that right will make this very nice!

I just built a vac machine, and its really great for round areas. Stuff that took forever to form is just sssssap and its done. Loving it.

Trying again with more arc at the back......

Getting the height of the cross sections......

    Number 1.

Gonna need some sanding previous one on the
right new one on the left. I have as much roll
as I can get in regards to it working with the
neck part which has a flat spot in it.

Definately a big improvement. Maybe add a very slight curvature at the front as well.

Darth and a little curve at the front, it's pretty close
    right now.
