Should I repair my Steve Neisen SS Tie Fighter

I have Tie Fighter made by Steve Neisen that has one part that has come loose.

It is a beam on the inside of the solar panel.

The model uses real louver material for the panel so I'm not sure of how to repair it or if I even should repair it.

I'm trying to sell this item and don’t know if fixing it would make it worth less or if not fixing it makes it worth less.

If I do fix it I don’t want to screw it up so what kind of glue should I use. I have crazy glue but I'm not sure it that will work and I don’t want to inadvertently discolor the lover material.

Any help would be a appreciated.

Thanks

It's actually pretty hard to photograph.

You can see the best in these images.

It’s the beam that would be in the 11 o'clock-ish position on the left inside panel.

Maybe you can use a hair dryer to slowly heat that resin beam back into position.

It's ruined, I'm afraid. It's junk, nothing from this can be salvaged. You should give it to me. Tell you what, I'll pay postage.

I would say: mask off the louvre material to prevent fumes from the glue discolouring it. Use gel-type cyano glue under the spar. Clamp the piece down. If any vapour condenses on the parts, wipe them, otherwise leave it alone for a couple of hours.

Haven't you finished that Rum yet Martyn?

I wouldn't bother fixing the wing. From the shots in the for sale thread it has glue runs showing anyway. of course this adds to the authentic look anyway so I would just leave it as is. If people want an idealized tie they can always get the efx.

Re: Should I repair mt Steve Neisen SS Tie Fighter

I would apply 5 minutes 2 part epoxy glue with a thin stick and use clamps while glue sets, to avoid crushing the thin "T" when using the clamp put two small pieces of wood or plastic on each side of the "T" strip so the clamp will sit on and not directly touch the very thin "T" strips.

OR

Just clamp it down use a hot hair dryer and let cool off while clamps on, if it's not straight just
heat it up then slowly flex it until satisfied then use superglue on the tip area were it overlaps the other part, assuming it's unglued there

I lke the idea of masking it off first though to prevent discoloration or ~gasp~ seepage of the adhesive past the spur

Re: Should I repair my Steve Neisen SS Tie Fighter

This was quite easy to fix.

I used a hair dryer to heat it up and get the bow out and then Iapplied crasy glue gel to the underside of the part with a q-tip and held it in place until it cured.

Then I clamped it just to be sure.

It's holding quite well and you can't even tell it was repaired.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Re: Should I repair my Steve Neisen SS Tie Fighter

Same thing happened on mine Dave and then I realized it was the result of incorrect assembly. When these things were originally constructed.......the wing stars were securely glued to the koolshade without any trim on the wing edges. Once that was cured, the trim was applied to the edges and were cut to fit around the struts at each "corner". The way you and I assembled it we glued it on top of the trim which pulls it up from the koolshade over time. I still have to re build my own wings in order to fix the problem. I'm too lazy to retrieve it from the wall. LOL.
