Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
a while ago i bought this Y-Wing already build and painted from a member here. He did a good job on it but the paintscheme and the details don't belong to any of the studiomodels. I'm not the person who who count every single rivet or millimeter detail on a model, for me it's more important to build a model with a more or less right shape. The general impression ![]() I want to build the, so called, "smithsonian Y-Wing" or "Gold 3 ?" General things i want to change are: -make a thinner (flater) fuselage at the rear. -make a thinner (flater) fuselage at the front (neck) -build new tail units (& tail fins) for the engines -add and change many details like on the piping, wings, butt plate, cockpit ... Surely this will be NOT the most accurate or the "ultimate" Y-Wing ![]() So, that was the starting point (last year), this is the Y-Wing as i get it. ![]() ![]()

Re: Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
Well, at least those two white stripes on the top of the canopy were correct for Gold Three. However the faded bluish markings on the engines (with no gold) are reminiscent of Gold 2 (Tyree), so your model originally had "mutant" markings.
As you know, those markings on the engines will have to be changed to a brownish green if you are building Gold Three (The "Smithsonian Y-Wing"). A very nice model and lots of work ahead - I too will enjoy following your progress. Good luck! |

Re: Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
Wow, this is crazy! But I guess it will be worth it. You certainly seem to know what you“re doing. I“d never dare to do this though...
Looking forward to seeing where you“ll take it to.

Re: Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
Hey JP05,
here is what i'm use for scribing : -needles in various shapes an thickness -very thin steel or photoetched rulers or stencils -400er - 1000er Sandpaper The most important thing about scribing is to work with patience ! For a good (and clean !) panel line you have to scratch it 20-40, maybe 50 times, depends on the material. Start with a very thin needle and slightest pressure, then sanding both sides beside the line and start again. Scratching an sanding ! After that you take the thicker needles and use it with a little more pressure, scratching and sanding.... Andre |

Re: Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
Could you take some more shots of this engine insert from different angles, or did you already plug it back in?
Or, could you measure the distance between the nozzle and the inside cone part ... the length of the inner tube that the Panther G part sits on? |

Re: Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
Hey Andre!
Thats looking really nice. It was a mix of paintjobs i did on that one. I took the bits i liked from all 3 and put them on this one. It was only my second ever studio model. Its looking fantastic now. Let me know if you break any of that T track , i have more! Keep up the good work. |

Re: Rebel Y-Wing Fighter
thank you very much guys !
hey gunpowder, good to read something from you here in this thread, and thank you for your offer with the t-tracks but i have repaired the broken one ![]() Next step : black primer ! Or like the Stones sing : " I see a Y-Wing and i want it painted black, no colours anymore i want them to turn black ..." ![]() ![]() @ Flintlock here is another shot, but the panther g part is the only org. kit part i used to upgrade the engines, i scratchbuild the other parts. The distance between the nozzle and the inside cone part is 21-22mm
