My MR Y-Wing Repaint

Here's my repaint of an MR Y-Wing. Its not of any particular version though I tried to do a yellow jammer. Hope you like.

Great one Rolando, looks better than the MR paint Ill get to finishing mine someday, gotta get back to that sucker lol! Id have maybe toned down some of the colors, im not baggin as i love it!

Very nice work! Weathering doesn't get any better than that.

Did you start fresh with new base coat, then build it back up?

I painted the entire thing flat white and worked from there. The build up of washes gave it a dirty greyish look.

Looks Beautiful, much better than the MR paint job. Just wondering what type of paint you used, oil or acrylic, and also which brand ?

I gave the entire piece a coat of regular Rustolium Flat White first beleive it or not. Straight out of the can. Once dried, I used Liqutex Acrylic Artist paints. I custom mix these to the initial base colors I require. This is what I used for the stripes and canopy. The rest was done using Winsor & Newton oil paints for the washes and dry brushing. I didn&#39;t use an airbrush at all.

Those colours look spot-on and the weathering really gives it that "rode hard, put away wet" look.

Very nice re-paint... I didn&#39;t get a look at this much before it came out, checking it out now, it looks as if the details kinda borrow from a few of the Ys... so, it&#39;s not meant to be a specific model, but a really solid representation of &#39;Y-Wing&#39;, maybe one that was uh... just off-screen?

Also, when you did the paint work, and this may be a time issue, did you ever consider taking it from a darker base, through a light primer, off white base, and then washes? You then could have knocked some of your chips into it, etc...

Thanks for the compliments to all, it&#39;s very much appreciated. As I mentioned before, though this repaint doesn&#39;t represent any one particular Y-Wing, I feel that it does serve in the spirit of what was created originally.

As for the chipped paint on my version, I actually used a masking rubber compound with a brush and used this on the engine noses and cockpit nose. Since the original paint job that MR used was dark, I left it this way and just brushed on the compound onto this before spraying everything white. Once dried, I just remove the masking to reveal a chipped paint pattern. I also used an exacto and scraped other areas. The reason I went with pure white on my base coat is that I knew that when I applied the washes, this would darken the model. What&#39;s great about this method is you have control as to how dark you&#39;d like to take it in small steps.

I know there are other methods that achieve different results but this is what has worked for me for years and is relatively easy to do once you know the method.

Doing a generic Y-wing paintjob is definitely appropriate. As someone has already pointed out, the model was never meant (at least as far as I was concerned) to be a specific craft, more a synthesis of a few Y-wings.

If I ever get the time I will be doing something similar to mine...
