    Dec 7, 2007 - MR Falcon Asteroid base! #1

OK so i have totally repainted it , modified the cockpit , and now i think its time to fix the base a little. I have made a kind of asteroid surface type thing. Its made from polystyrene ceiling tiles covered in plaster of paris. It looks a bit rough at the moment , a bit like some strange splat , but im sure that when i have painted it it should look OK. Its simply slid over the mounting pole and sits on the black card that i have over the mirror. I need to put some fresh black card down whein i have painted the asteroid as the one thats on it is a bit tatty. Of coarse if it all looks a bit naff when i have done it i simply take the thing off. Its cost peanuts to make.
Heres a pic of the basic unpainted asteroid.

Heres some of the falcon "flying" over it

    All comments welcome guys

I think that i may extend the asteroid to cover the whole bas. It looks a little odd i think...

I agree. The base needs to be larger than the falcon by about half the width of the falcon again.

Other than that it will be a masterpiece.

    cheers for posting.

Sorry but i don't really like it, don't be angry with me. It distract from the model and the Falcon is to close to it.

And when painted it could look like Han is emtying the chemical toilet like cousin Eddie in Christmas Vacation

I must admit, I think the Falcon is too close to the surface of the asteroid base. I also agree that if you're going to use this idea, it should extend out to the edges of the base.

I always thought that part of the Cloud City landing platform would make a very cool base for the Falcon.

I think it will look great when its done, just like everyone else has said maybe extend it. also if you were to make the asteroid more flatter/shallower tehn maybe the falcon wouldnt look as close to it?

I agree, whole base, about half as tall and make a couple craters........make one at least 1/4th the size of the base. Paint it potato brown.........LOL

I really love this whole idea you've got going!

Thats Funny , i was watching that on DVD yesterday! "Merry Xmas , Sh**ter was full!"

I must admit im not convinced either. I may start over and cover the entire base!
I was also toying with the idea of a white snow base. Not sure but its all good fun!
As we speak i have had another idea!

Well i scrapped the one pictured above. I have covered the whole base with tiles but even with no plaster on , the left hand side of the ship still looks very close. I may have to abandon this idea and make a better base. I dont mind , it was after all only an experiment. Now to fabricate a new stand , mwa ha ha!

I always thought it would be sweet to see an MR Falcon in a Docking Bay 94 base with little Sandtroopers shooting from the door, like that overhead scene in the SE ANH, the 'new' computer generated one.

    Found it, this one:

Or maybe this one, it's so classic and iconic:

I noticed something on my MR base...........in order for it to be centered the best on the base, I had to turn the falcon such that the left outside line of left mandible is parallel with that side of the base...in other words, it needs to fly towards that corner of the base somewhat.... Once you do this it will look like it is supposed to be that way. When I leave the falcon pointed straight and parallel with both sides of the base......it looks terribly uneven. Here is a pic of mine on it's base after I altered the angle.

I would scrap the asteroid base. It's too close to the model and honestly, just doesn't display well that way. I would rather do the floor on tatooine when it takes off after being attacked by sandtroopers. The falcon's pose looks more geared to that scene anyway.

Yeah docking bay 94, all the way Andrew, itll look killer! I saw one of these at a show once, it was the lego 32" with the tatooine docking bay built around it, even though it was Lego, it looked awesome.

You know what else you can add to it? Maybe get Chris King's sculptor to make some sandtroopers in scale blasting away at the Falcon.. add them to the base, make the ultimate Diorama.

I would Love to see what some of you could do with the Death Star docking bay scene. I remember a few people toying with the idea of landing gear... that would be awesome!!! And yeah if CKs sculptor made TKs that would work there too!!!

I think the asteroid is a very cool idea but I agree that at the very least it should be not as tall on the base. Or maybe construct a new stand in which the falcon sits much higher from the base.
