Coming out next year from yamato, prebuilt.. massive.
Coming out next year from yamato, prebuilt.. massive.
Love the show, but I never got the whole transforming thing.
'Hey, how does your ship transform from a cruiser into a giant robot ?'
'We stand it up and move one thing'.
Very cool. So prebuilt takes the fun out of it for all the model builders though.
Huh. I know Uizu wanted to fund a comedy, but things went along as Nue wanted after Uizu folded, I never heard of the designs stemming from that, but thought it was story-based needs and Kawamori's/ Miyatake's work that led the (mecha) look, not a spooof aspect.
Given this is the 25th anniv of DYRL, I'm surprised more large-scale and high-end pieces haven't shown up, this could be a fantastic piece.
BTW, slight miss with the forum.
Yeah, I saw this on Macross World.
Let's just hope this thing is not as fragile as Yamato's transformable Valkyries...

I used to have one of the little kits of this ship from back the late 1980's-early 1990's. Man I played with it until it fell apart.
I have high hopes for this piece.
Maybe it's just me, not seeing the show in many years but weren't
the arms aircraft carriers? Promethius and something else?
I am not recognizing the things they have on that model there.
Again, it's been a while.
On the TV show, there were two aircraft carriers attached as the "arms", the Daedalus and the Prometheus. That is the DYRL version of the Macross, so what you see are the ARMD 01 and 02 platforms that were supposed to be there on the TV show but were destroyed when the Zentraedi attacked causing them to use the carriers instead.
I'd love to have this, but there's no way I'll be able to afford it. The 1/48 VF-1S with Super/Strike armor will just have to remain the highlight of my small Macross collection.
I'll probably pick up one after reviews. I've always loved the DYRL SDF1 design.
-Joe
I did a SDF-1 awhile back. One of my first resin kits.

Oh wait... I'm not allowed to respond to this thread... or I might get banned like I was at Macrossworld for teasing the thin-skinned toy collectors.. They can't take a joke over there.

MW Cyberstalker!!! Rofl
Is that the Yellow Sub kit? It looks great.
I have pretty much sworn off toys since I got back into modelling and we got an interested kit builder on the forums, but if I can afford it, I'm probably gonna bite the bullet on the SDF-1, it's my Macross Holy Grail piece, and I don't see a kit version of this magnitude coming out, ever.
wow what a impressive looking model......er toy. i guess you cant call it a model if its "prebuilt"
Wow dragged from the dead ;p IIRC this actually only was sold in massively expensive not 100% built (and unpainted) "prototype" numbers or something. And then a smaller version was made for mass production.
Macross world has to be the most serious forum on the internet. You get banned for mentioning either Rick hunter or jetfire
How can it be "studio scale" if the original subject is anime art?
Looks nice though.
haha - was browsing through this forum tonight, saw this and was like a macross post!? Cool! Then noticed I had posted this about 3 years ago lol
Yeah that kit/toy/model is pretty awesome - I think its 1/2000 and a pretty big price tag.
Yamato has since come out with a much more affordable 1/3000 prebuilt and KIT version.
Quite a few awesome build up threads about it over on macross world. And yeah that place is tough to stick around at if you have many opinions outside of what the mods think.
I once posted a thread over there about how I couldn't wait for an order from Japan. I was excited and I wanted to share that. As soon as a few other people shared their similar sentiment, the mods turned, the thread into one about shipping questions and problems. I think it's still going
