A "little" add on to the Colonial Movers
A buddy of mine just dropped off a grown Mk.II Viper, to scale with the Colonial Movers I plan to build after the holidays - I'm aiming to recreate the Hand of God scene, where a squad of Vipers is revealed hiding inside the white cargo box!
![]() ![]() It won't cost all that much to get the whole squad grown, and I can light the cockpits since the material is translucent and frosty... |

PCS Engineering Inc. Where I work. I wil be doing these for Jason. He was considering makeing a mold and casting them but it would actually cost more to do that then have me print up a full tray.

Sweet,
I have heard of the process of "growing" objects, but I have not formally pursued it. Can I PM you for details and the availability of services? Requirements, etc. Thanks, |

Re: A "little" add on to the Colonial Movers
Can a complex shape like that be grown in one piece? Or was this a few that were put together?

Yep - all in one piece. Amazing!!
And Frank, that was my plan, but it's literally cheaper to grow a tray of these!! |

Re: A "little" add on to the Colonial Movers
I thought you were joking about them being "grown." Seriously? How is that possible?

Re: A "little" add on to the Colonial Movers
When you "grow" something like this, what does the actual, physical cutting? A laser? Or is it some other process?

Re: A "little" add on to the Colonial Movers
This is amazing & looks how a machina can physically produce an image made in a computer.
Very nice work & may just be the future of modeling. Thanks for sharing this. |

Re: A "little" add on to the Colonial Movers
Nothing cuts in this process. Cutting is subtractive, while 3D printing is additive. It deposits plastic on an xy plane one z-layer at a time. There are other processes though, which are slightly different, but I don't think any of them cut. That would be what a CNC mill would do, out of a solid, pre-existing piece.

Frank - you want to try to clay that up? Those guns are tiny and even pressure casting there are thin areas that will trap bbubbles. I'm going to run a whole tray of these and they work out to about $4.00 ea. if anyone is interested. PM or Email me. (Email prefered) |
